In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Camille Byrd O’Quin

Assistant Professor, Speech Language Pathology
Camille Byrd O’Quin is Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Clinical Education of the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. She is a doctoral candidate in special education at Illinois State University with an expected graduation date of 2021. Her scholarship includes professional development presentations at regional, national, and international academic institutions and conferences for the study of culturally responsive pedagogy. Mrs. O’Quin’s research involves valuation of African American Vernacular English; examination of disproportionality in special education; expansion of culturally responsive teaching practices in urban education; and differential diagnosis of cultural linguistic diverse learners. Mrs. O’Quin holds a license with the Illinois State Board of Education and certification through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Clare Rothschild

Professor, College of Humanities, Fine Arts, and Communication
Clare K. Rothschild is Professor of Scripture Studies at Lewis University (USA) and Professor Extraordinary, Department Ancient Studies at Stellenbosch University (South Africa). Her main research interests are Luke-Acts, the Muratorian Fragment, and the Apostolic Fathers. Clare spent a year as Humboldt Fellow in Munich researching her book, Hebrews as Pseudepigraphon, on the Pauline attribution of this early Christian text. Her current research focuses on the Epistle of Barnabas, on which she is preparing a commentary for the Hermeneia series. She serves as General Editor of Early Christianity as well as the SBL series, Writings from the Greco-Roman World. In her spare time, she enjoys yoga and playing the cello in various small orchestras and ensembles.

Gina Martinez

Assistant Professor, Computer Science
Dr. Gina Martinez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences and the Director of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Lewis University. She earned a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and M.S. in Computer Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology, and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As an educator, Gina is interested in engineering curriculum design, especially in providing accessible and inclusive engineering education to students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles. Her technical areas of interest include the internet of things, computer architecture and embedded systems.

Sheila Boysen

Associate Professor, College of Business
Dr. Boysen is a Master Certified executive leadership coach, author, and professor within the College of Business at Lewis University. Having worked as an HR leader across multiple industries, her experience in enabling positive change enables her to bring a blend of corporate leadership and team dynamics into her classrooms and coaching engagements. She supports her students to grow as leaders, achieve results, and to develop their own leadership competencies.

Vesna Markovic

Associate Professor, College of Education and Social Sciences
Dr. Markovic, associate professor and Chair of the Justice, Law and Public Safety Studies Department, has developed a robust career in criminal justice doing research and publishing in areas focusing on terrorism and transnational organized crime. She is a senior lecturer for the NATO Center of Excellence Defense Against Terrorism in Ankara, Turkey, and has lectured worldwide on suicide bombings and terrorism. She began her professional career in academia as an assistant professor at the University of New Haven, and eventually became Assistant Dean for the College of Criminal Justice. She also served as Principal Investigator on several grants and served as director for the Institute for the Study of Violent Groups (ISVG). She previously worked as a Private Investigator doing corporate due diligence Investigations.
