In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Mike Saunders

Pepe Marais

Pepe Marais is the founding partner and Group Chief Creative Officer of brand and communication group Joe Public United. He lives to bring out the best in those around him. His definition of success is to create an environment of harmony and joy, where the focus is on the well-being of people – growing them to achieve the highest levels of self-worth, honesty and excellence by nurturing ideas, dreams and trust. Pepe is currently ranked the number one creative leader in the South African advertising industry, he is a published author, and recipient of the 2018 Sanlam Business Partnership Entrepreneur of the Year Award for medium businesses, together with his business partner Gareth Leck. He believes that Joe Public is at the beginning of what they set out to do in terms of the caliber of work they aspire to create. Pepe serves on the board of SA Day, is the founder and Chairman of One School at a Time, is a closet Afrikaans rocker and a humanitarian at heart.

Salome Maswime

Salome Maswime is an associate Professor and the Head of the Global Surgery Division at the University of Cape Town; an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist; a World Economic Forum Young Scientist; Next Einstein Fellow; and President of the South African Clinician Scientists Society. She is a former research fellow at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and former lecturer at the Wits University. She is a trustee of the South African Health Systems Trust, and associate editor of the South African Journal of Obstetics and Gynaecology; and a member of UNITARs’ Global Surgery Foundation leadership team.
