Theme: New technologies that benefit society: Machine learning

In an age of internet globalization, constant communication and a reprimand-able necessity for fast information, computer systems seem to not be only acceptable and necessary but in a way, irreplaceable for humans.

How can Machine Learning aid our civilization in the next steps we need to make towards an interstellar and potentially immortal civilization? How do we move from current computer systems to ones that learn, adapt and enforce, even without our command but in our benefit?
