Rachel Bendler

Rescuer of slaughter-bound horses
Rachel Bendler is co-founder of Bella Run Equine, a 501(c)(3) non-profit in Athens County, Ohio, dedicated to the responsible rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing of slaughter-bound horses. Since 2007, the Bella Run team has traveled to horse auctions to outbid slaughter house representatives, often referred to as “kill buyers.” After buying these horses, the team assesses their injuries and emotional distress. Bella Run rehabilitates them and adopts them out to new and deserving homes, then uses the revenue from adoption fees to return to the auctions.

Zack Bendler

Rescuer of slaughter-bound horses
Originally from Oklahoma, Zack Bendler is co-founder of Bella Run Equine in Appalachian Ohio. Zack and his colleagues at Bella Run are passionate about saving as many horses from slaughter as they can, then rehabilitating them and finding them new homes. Compassion, wisdom & expertise gained from many years of experience, and responsible resource management are all central foundation blocks in the work of Bella Run.
