TEDxYouth@ReddamHouse is an event focused on the future and what young people can do to make sure we have improve the world we live in. With speakers from the UK, South Africa and Australia, we present many different perspective on our topic.

Alexandra Thomson

Marine Biochemist and Ecologist
Dr Alex Thomson is a Superstar of STEM and the manager of the University of Technology Sydney’s (UTS) Deep Green Biotech Hub, one of the few algae-based hubs in Australia. With a PhD in marine ecology and a Bachelor of Environmental Science (Honours), both from UTS, she has produced research papers on marine ecology and the carbon capturing potential of coastal systems. An advocate for sustainability and climate change action, she uses her research to engage and educate audiences about the potential of our global sustainable future, and is currently spear-heading the world’s first algae accelerator program, Green Light.

Dani Christelis

Student and public speaker
A year 11 student at Reddam House, Dani enjoys and competes in public speaking. She is interested in exploring perspectives different to hers, finding flaws in her beliefs, values and finding ways to potentially change.

Kutlu Kazancı

Tech Startup advisor
Kutlu has close to 20 years of business experience, advising startups and technology companies around the world. Kutlu has been part of launching and running startup programs in UK and EMEA, including Creative Destruction Lab, UKBasecamp, SUCool, Founder Institute, Galata Business Angels, Endeavor Turkey as well as cofounding an enterprise innovation software company, WeDecide. Previous to that, he worked as a banker in New York and Jakarta. He holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering with distinction

Steve Sherman

Education expert and Chief imagination officer
Steve is the Chief Imagination Officer of an Educational NGO in South Africa called Living Maths, founded in 1995. He teaches approximately 4500 students weekly in schools around Cape Town, as well as the rest of the world. He is passionate about sharing knowledge and empowering young people. He has taught in over 200 different classrooms around the world using the internet. He knows his way around EDtech as he regularly facilitates workshops for teachers, and he also conducts online interviews with prominent international guests. Steve is a TEDx speaker, Kahoot Ambassador, Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert and one of only 2 Skype Master Teachers in South Africa. He is a multi-award purchasing educator and he feels that it is his destiny to spread the joy of STEM, Edtech, numbers and creative thinking to anyone who is willing to listen, and even to those who are not! People often dream of meeting great leaders. Steve just smiles because he teaches them!
