Theme: REFLEXIVITY

Reflexivity is defined as examining one’s own beliefs and how these beliefs play a pivotal part in our everyday decision making. Suffice to say, we all had an unforgettable 2020 that was filled with lots of ups and downs. Amidst the chaos, many of us opted to look inwardly & reflect upon such a tumultuous year; we chose to focus on the positives, learn from our experience, support one another and ultimately look to improve in 2021!

Whether in relation to research, learning or developing understanding, reflexivity is a process of growing. Through this theme, we want to facilitate a better understanding of the self and others in relation to the world around us. While an individual has the capacity to examine their own perspectives, motives and responses to their surroundings, a community can reflexively consider their collective responses to a global issue. We are interested in hearing ideas worth spreading that draws on the notion of reflexivity.

Alice Gorman

Space Archaeologist.

Dr Alice Gorman is an internationally recognised leader in the field of space archaeology. Her research on space exploration has been featured in National Geographic, New Scientist, and Archaeology magazine. She is a faculty member of the International Space University's Southern Hemisphere Space Program in Adelaide.

Brian Murphy

Engineer, Scientist.

Brian Murphy’s main areas of focus are presently in project management, entrepreneurship, and advanced mechanical and process engineering design. Brian is presently a PhD Candidate in Mechanical Engineering (nano-materials) at the University of South Australia and was the 2018 Winner of the University’s prestigious Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition.

Eloise Hall

Entreupreneur.

Eloise Hall and Isobel Marshall at 17 and 18 years old co-Founded the South Australian based organisation TABOO, a social enterprise providing a range of high quality, ethically sourced, organic cotton pads and tampons. TABOO has partnered with many Australian organisations to provide free access to pads for Australian women who require menstrual support. Eloise is also the youngest finalist in the history of the InDaily 40 Under 40 award, and Advertiser Woman of the year Nominee.

Isabelle Kingsley

Researcher, Science Communicator, Educator.

Isabelle started her illustrious teaching career at 7 years old. She is a researcher who explores the science of science education. She co-founded and led the annual Sydney Science Festival to captivate the curiosity of young and old in pubs, opera theatres, alleyways and all kinds of other quirky, unexpected and entertaining places.

Isobel Marshall

Entreupreneur.

Joanne Lackenby

Nuclear Scientist. Environmentalist.

Dr Joanne (Jo) Lackenby is the President of the Australian Nuclear Association Environmentalist for nuclear energy. She is responsible for managing the reactor’s nuclear safety and radiological protection regulatory compliance process framework. Jo is passionate about nature and often feel more comfortable in the bush than in a city.

Kirrilie Rowe

Scientist. Engineers. Environmentalist.

Kirrilie Rowe’s working life has been within the environmental sciences, including working as a hydrogeologist with consultancies and government departments in South Australia. Currently, she is undertaking an internship with TreeNET, looking at the financial benefit of the services provided by urban trees.

Matt Anderson

Entreupreneur.

Matt Anderson has been a purpose-driven leader for over 20 years — founding a number of social startups, working as an innovation consultant, catalysing many cross-sector collaborative initiatives, as well as leading a number of impact organisations.

Nathan Jones

Researcher, Musician, Voice Over Artist.

Nathan has been playing the piano and writing songs since he was seven years old. He recently performed some live music for a meditation at the Googleplex in California. He is a little obsessed with understanding emotions and what makes people tick!

Paul Dare

Engineer, Pilot, Mapping scientist.

Paul was born in the UK but migrated permanently to Australia in 1999, He is an Australian-based engineer, pilot, and mapping scientist. He has volunteered as a firefighter, a surf lifesaver and served in the Australian Defence Force.

Ruchi Sinha

Researcher, Psychologist.

Dr Ruchi Sinha is an Organizational Psychologist who loves to research and teach Negotiation Skills. She is passionate about integrating knowledge from multiple disciplines especially psychology, management, sociology and philosophy to better understand how humans relate with others at work.
