Theme: Motivation for Innovation

We believe in the philosophy of “Ideas worth sharing” and want to take the opportunity to bring distinguished individuals with ideas, innovations and interesting motivations driving those innovative ideas to the greater Baku community.
TedxLandau wants to create a platform where such individuals may interact with young adults from Landau and other schools/universities in Azerbaijan and in result inspire and motivate them to go and achieve extraordinary feats.

Abbas Kazmi

Businessman

Kazmi raised $100 million to seed Collegiate Capital, a venture firm that focuses on fintech, cybersecurity, energy and gaming; he's Europe's youngest founder and managing partner of a VC fund of that size. He started his first business, a game called U-Design, at age 16; he also now serves as CEO of the Oxford Accelerator, a business incubator hosted by the prestigious university.

Aysel Mammadova

Historian

A passionate Historian, whose love for her subject drives and ignites the passion of all of her students. As the Principal of LANDAU High School, she ensures that Landau school has the highest quality of teaching and learning. Aysel Mammadova holds a BA and MA degrees in International Relations and Political Studies and a Qualified Teacher Status issued by the Teacher Regulation Agency, England.

Leyla Iskandarli

President of LANDAU's Student Council

Leyla has spent most of her life being whisked away from one country to another. Being born in the city of New York, spending her middle school years in Istanbul, and growing up in a homogeneous Baku, she has learned to adapt in many environments. This skill has helped her develop a more complex understanding of how the world works, and how we as individuals fit into the big puzzle. Filled with much passion for making a positive impact in her community, Leyla has started a Sustainability Club at her school with the aim of transforming her community into a more environmentally friendly one. Leyla is currently an 11th grader in LANDAU, studying for her A-level exams, and preparing for the SATs.

Nandan Gautam

Yoga Instructor, Author, composer

Nandan Gautam grew up in Bangalore, India. He went to Mc Daniel College, Maryland, USA and worked at newspaper USA Today as a Graphic Designer for a few years. He returned to India to study yoga and meditation for the next twenty years under Spiritual Master Bharat Thakur. His journey of self-discovery led him back to his first love – music – where he infuses his raw but ethereal vocals with hypnotic rhythms and sophisticated harmonies specifically designed to calm, heal and transform the self. A Lie and a Truth, an anthology of conversations and encounters with his Master, was his first book. The King of the Sea is his first novel and music album. He lives in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Toghrul Maharramov

Consensus Architect at Dusk Network

He is a Consensus Architect at Dusk Network, a Dutch FinTech start-up that leverages distributed ledger technology to build an arbitrary computation-enabling privacy-preserving platform catered for security digitization and asset lifecycle management. He works on theoretical modeling of distributed networks and applications of cryptography within the protocol scope.

Zaher Halwani

Specialist for gynecological oncology

Dr. Zaher Halwani is the Head of The Department of the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinic and Head of the Endometriosis Centre of the Humboldt Vivantes Hospital in Berlin. Dr. Halwani specializes in gynecological oncology, in particular, ovarian cancer and generally advanced gender-specific cancer conditions in women. Dr. Halwani has performed well over 1,000 surgical procedures and so has substantial experience as a surgeon in his specialist area. In doing so, he relies on gentle, minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopy and robot-assisted (da Vinci) techniques whenever possible, even for cancer conditions in advanced stages.
