In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Amy Hannah

Never a victim always a survivor
We learn to walk and talk as babies but what happens when we are forced to completely change the way we look at life. When suddenly the grass isn't greener and the end of the rainbow seems so far. Many people experience trauma throughout their life and unfortunately many experience trauma before their brain has fully developed, before there even told right from wrong. Trauma can affect everybody and this can differ from person to person but the one thing they all have in common is the fear of being isolated, afraid to speak up in case you get victim blamed. Amy is telling her life experiences and her journey from being a victim to a survivor in hopes that it gives other people the courage to speak up, share their own stories and start to break the way society treats survivors of assault.

Ashley Riley

Expert on Communications
Brandology – why we buy what we do and how to get others to buy what you do. With Christmas away the global sleigh ride of Santa Claus to the homes of all children will soon be underway. Why do we all become more susceptible to buying more things during the festive season or are businesses just better at marketing at Christmas? While the answer could be both the real magic of Christmas lies behind what Ashley Riley calls ‘Brandology’ He explains the theories, the practices and the psychology behind the enormous pressures of why we buy our children the ‘must have’ toy of the year, why we spend a small fortune on perfume and aftershave and why for some reason the Christmas of long ago seemed simpler, less about money and more about the ‘meaning.’ This is a fascinating, interesting, entertaining and informative look at not only how global corporate businesses get us to buy at this time of year but equally importantly how we can all learn from them and use those skills ourselves.

Ella McCrystal

Clinical Hypnotherapist
Ella is a senior Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist with over 12 years experience specialising in the treatment of mental health disorders. She firmly believes the mind and body are intrinsically linked and is fascinated by the power of Hypnosis to overcome and deal with issues created by or controlled by our Subconscious mind. Hypnotically-facilitated systematic desensitisation, is very helpful. The individual learns to gain a sense of internal control over the fearful or anxiety-producing trigger. Advantages of hypnotic desensitisation over traditional behavioural desensitisation include enhanced scene visualisation and the ability to give posthypnotic suggestions to encourage behavioural responses to the situations that were imagined. Mental rehearsal of successfully coping with tense situations is another method for treating anxiety and phobic disorders. Ella will share this with us during her 18 min speech: ‘The Science of how Hypnotherapy reframes our Phobias & Fears’.

James Stride Shaun Franklin

Chamber - Unlock your potential
Shaun and James explore the military mindset: Is there method in the madness? Soldiers can continuously adapt and overcome when faced with the enemy on the battlefield but when placed outside of that brotherhood bubble the effects of war can soon creep in. As two veterans of war, where PTSD, depression and time behind bars played their part. Their story is one of resilience and the ability to tackle fear head on.

Simon Paine

CEO & Co-Founder The Rebel School
Head full of bees: A Mental Health Revolution is coming Mental health conditions are increasing worldwide, with an estimated one in seven people suffering from one or more mental health conditions. Deteriorating mental health ruins people’s lives and at huge financial cost; two of the most common mental health conditions, depression and anxiety, cost the global economy an estimated US$ 1 trillion each year. So how do we tackle this? With an alternative understanding of how our mind works, Simon Paine offers hope through his lived experience of depression and anxiety and asks: what if the solution is spiritual and not medical.

Val Hassall

Story Strategist & Professional Coach (ICF)
The Art of Owning Your Story: Where do you start when it comes to telling a good story? And why should you bother to tell yours? Everyone loves a good story - but most people don’t realise the importance of theirs. To themselves, their loved ones and those they wish to seek to influence. In this talk, Val will explore the idea that the way we think about our story, and giving ourselves permission to share it, is what gives it the power to change hearts and minds. Val helps creative founders and leaders tell their stories to market their businesses; but here she will be sharing why a much bigger impact can be made when people choose to own their personal story, drawing on her journey of making peace with hers. She invites you to test this hypothesis live as she shares her deeply personal, untold story for the first time.
