We curate emerging students, lectures, alumni, scientists and thinkers, from the leading ODL institute in Africa UNISA, introducing them to the TED community well before they hit the mainstream. TEDxUniversityOfSouthAfrica also seeks out presenters run the South Africa's most admired companies and design its best-loved products; they invent world-changing devices and create ground-breaking media.

Hetty -UNISA Alumni- Co-founder of South Africa's largest African print retail brand, P&H boutique, situated across South Africa at award-winning malls as well as residential proterty portfolio, P&H Homes. Hetty was named a Top 200 Young South African by Mail & Guardian in 2019, Top 50 Thriving Female Founders, and ranked number 1 on Vusi Thembekwayo's Top 40 mentorship programme. A notable highlight in Hetty's journey was being featured on South Africa's prestigious lifestyle television show, Top Billing. Hetty now dedicates her time with guiding entrepreneurs to achieve their goals through results-based mentorship. She has set an ambitious goal to impact 100 African-led businesses in 2020 through her talks and mentorship.

Paballo Katleho Makupu

Paballo consulting actuary and manager, technical member of the Actuarial Society of South Africa and an award-winning philanthropist. Her many accolades include the Mail & Guardian Top 200 Young South Africans, Carrol Boyes Fabulous Girl Foundation’s Girl of the Year, CEO Global’s Pan Africa award for Africa’s Most Influential Woman in Business, the Youth Service and Excellence award as well as Youth Philanthropist award from the Gauteng Premier and the Association of South African Black Actuarial Professionals’ Inkanyezi award. Paballo wants to use her experience to provide a platform for aspiring female professionals while mentoring and preparing them to take on leadership positions.

BSc Hons (Mathematics), Masters (IT), PhD (IT) is a C2 South Africa NRF Rated Researcher and Professor with the Department of Computer Science, School of Computing, College of Science, Engineering and Technology at the University of South Africa. He is currently the Director for Digital Skills Research at NEMISA, current Associate Editor for the African Journal of Information and Communication, past Associate Editor at the African Journal of Information Systems, the Immediate Past Chairperson for the ICT4D Flagship at Unisa, and immediate Past Secretary for SAICSIT. Founded SaveTNet Cyber Safety after she heard of the shocking statistics of young people who commit suicide because of cyberbullying and has been the driving force behind SaveTNet, which offers help to cybercrime victims through a NETwork of relevant professionals. She is a thought leader in the cyber safety space and is a front runner also working on issues such as smart cities, eSports and Gaming. The Digital Parenting, released in March 2020, empowers parents to have cyber safety conversations and to ensure more responsible digital citizens. She is featured in the international documentary film titled “Public Figure”, and was featured at The Global Leadership Summit 2018.
