Come watch a variety of student and guest speakers, as well as our keynote speaker: Her Excellency Amal Al-Koos, Secretary-General of the UAE National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, who chaired a UNESCO meeting in Paris!

After Greta Thunberg's successes regarding climate change, we were reminded that our future is going to be led by the children of today, hence why this year, we wanted to give students a platform to express their 2020 vision.

Amaar Attarwala

Why is technology not being utilised to help tackle the growing concerns around our environments and climate change? Amaar, in his TED talk, will explore the impact paper products have on our planet and how a little change in our attitude could lead to a large impact for our planet. Tackling issues such as deforestation, recycling and the values of different generations, Amaar’s 2020 vision is a paperless approach to solving the world’s environmental issues. It’s time we all started a new page.

In a forever changing world, with great focus on the power of technology, we often neglect the power of our voice. Our voice can be used for much more than we know: for justice, for expression, to persuade. Though we can enact positive change with our voices, some will use their voice with malicious intent, driving others to commit out of the ordinary acts. However, when positive voices unite, we can destroy these chains of hate and conquer negativity. Just with our voice.

In a world dominated by moving forwards, sharing our lives over the internet and consistently looking ahead, do we forget to sit still and appreciate what’s in front of us and where we have come from? As I approach my 30th birthday in 2020, I consider 'life to do lists', their purpose and their limitations.

The youth of today could be a driving force for change when it comes to some of the most critical global issues says Michel, Lina, Lila and Hussam. In their TED talk, they explore poverty, global warming, inequality and deforestation and offer suggestions which primarily recommend that world leaders consider the growing voices of young people if significant changes are ever going to be made. Collectively, their 2020 vision is a vision of clarity that encapsulates not just the ideas of “grownups” but the fresh perspectives of children and young people.

I have thoughts. You have thoughts. Your loved ones have thoughts. Some good some bad. Some that need to be shared some that are only for us. But what about the line in between both of those. Thoughts that need to be expressed but you keep to yourself. Have you ever wondered if there’s something you have wanted to tell your parents but are too scared to? Or as a parent have you wondered if your children are telling the whole story? That fear is not good for a young adult’s mental health and well-being. It's something that needs to be evicted. But how? My talk is all about how children can grow confidence to express their thoughts more freely and how parents can establish a better relationship with their children.

I shaped my future by practicing a philosophy that kept me grounded; a personal mantra that takes an individual back to the basics. A universal mentality that enables individuals to engineer themselves into driven, passionate people able to grow and evolve to practice their soul calling.

Things are going to happen in life that you have no control over and you can either get frustrated by that FACT, or you can focus on what you can control - your mind and your reaction to it. Instead of thinking "why is this happening to me?", Identify "what is this teaching me?"

In my speech, I will be talking about change and what it is about. I will include what change is; if you are part of someone's change; and what your vision 2020 is to do with change. I will mention some quotes about vision 2020, change and hope. My main idea is about how people change themselves to fit in. But I won't just mention that I will mention examples and the good and bad changes.
