Theme: Global Citizenship

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Allen (Junsu) Kim

Student

Born in the Republic of Korea (ROK) in 2004, Allen (Junsu) Kim attended Valor International Scholars since the beginning of secondary school. Throughout his high school career, Allen (Junsu) Kim studied various subjects relating to science, mathematics, and engineering, inspiring him to want to study Mechanical Engineering and Business passionately at American colleges. Allen (Junsu) Kim dreams of starting his own business, a process in which is currently in progress. As he continues in his interest in business, Allen (Junsu) Kim strongly believes that failure is key to growth.

Danny (Jonghun) Lee

Student

Jonghun Lee was born in South Korea and currently lives in Busan. At the beginning of his high school career, Jonghun studied in Pennsylvania for two years as an international student, however, he had to return back to South Korea due to COVID-19. Since then, this speaker has attended Valor International Scholars from September of 2020. He is interested in studying dentistry or pharmacy and is eager to return to the United States to study at university.

Esther (Sheeah) Roh

Born and raised in the United States until the age of 10, Esther (Sheeah) Roh was able to experience different customs and systems from two different countries. Esther (Sheeah) Roh learned the differences and similarities and learned how to adapt to them in ways that would broaden her perspectives.

Grace (Gyuri) Won

Student

Born in the Republic of Korea (ROK) in 2004, Gyuri Won graduated elementary school in Anseong, Korea, and moved to Valor International Scholars, where she is currently attending. Won is a young girl who was highly interested in writing and loved to share and report on how the world is going on in public. She is planning to major in Journalism in college in America. Moreover, she wants to handle the second interest ‘environment’. With those experiences, she expects people from all over the world to realize and work on the serious situation of the environment through her journal.

Haram Jang

Born in South Korea in 2002, Haram Jang finished 9 years of her education in Korea and then moved to China to study abroad for three years. Due to COVID-19, she returned back to South Korea and has been attending Valor International Scholars since then. As a rising senior at international school, Haram Jang will soon excitedly attend college in America, hoping to major in International Relations and/or Environmental Studies. With a diverse experience and background, Haram Jang challenges herself to understand the wider world and learn more about global issues from all around the world.

Jean Kwak

Jean Kwak was born in South Korea in 2002. After graduating from elementary school in Seoul, Korea, she started to attend Valor International Scholars. Growing up with art throughout her life, Kwak plans to continue her passion for art after high school at an American university.

Kayla (Ryukyoung) Kim

Born in South Korea in 2003, Ryukyoung Kim graduated from middle school in Jeju, South Korea. As an international student at Valor International Scholars, Kim was able to study a various range of subjects, grow in relationships, and overall go through life experiences. Through this, Kim is planning to study social science because of her found passion for politics and behavior.

Sean Han

Student

Born in Los Angeles, the United States, in 2003. Sean Han is currently a high school student in Valor International Scholars and studying Computer Science. With his passion for technology and music, Han is also a Student Intern at Machine Learning and Visual Computing Laboratory and is researching ‘Music Composition Based on Classification of Perception of Emotion in Music Using Machine Learning. Han seeks to challenge the dualities and binarism created by society as parameters. Sean Han’s quest is to challenge the compartmentalization of concepts and promote the human realization that their right and left cerebral hemispheres can work together and yield complex creations has just started.

Taeyoon Kim

Taeyoon Kim was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea until the beginning of secondary school. Upon graduating from elementary school, Taeyoon studied abroad in Chiang Mai in Thailand and entered Valor International Scholars due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
