Theme: Inspiring Beginnings

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Aya Al Tabbaa

Aya is a 16-year-old working her way towards a successful junior year. She strongly believes in improvement, self-development, and always making the best out of any situation. In her TEDx talk, Aya will share a challenge she overcame, then seen as negative but which she now considers as positive and life-changing.

Jana Issawi

What can truly be considered an inspiring beginning, and is one aware of a remarkable starting point when being involved in one? In her TEDx talk, Jana Issawi will explore the theme of new beginnings and the broad term of an “inspiring beginning”. Being a person with multiple interests who is passionate about many fields, including Model UN, gymnastics, and football, Jana believes that the key to effectively achieving a certain task is hard work and passion. Her talk will address how determination and passion are capable of allowing one to achieve incredible goals.

Mouin Erkan

Mouin Erkan is a Mawakeb Barsha Alumnus. He is a very passionate basketball player and coach. He finds joy in sharing stories and motivating other athletes trying to achieve what he has achieved at a young age. In this talk, Mouin will be sharing an inspiring motivational speech under the title of “Life is a Pitch” and hopes to leave a major impact on the audience.

Nadia Alshaibani

How do you recover from an 8-hour spinal fusion? Pills? IV drip? Therapy? In Nadia’s talk, she takes you through her scoliosis journey as she challenges the belief behind “new beginnings”. Nadia is a 16-year-old Emirati junior at Al Mawakeb School. She believes that prevention is always better than cure and has made it her mission to educate the world on this invisible illness. Nadia is passionate about giving back to her community. She strongly believes in changing the world one day at a time and hopes her talk will embed in your hearts.

Sabrina Atari

Why are people constantly letting minor setbacks stop them from moving forward? Sabrina, in her TEDx talk, will be sharing a fragment of her story about an experience that has impacted her greatly and completely changed her mind set on life. People all around the globe have let other individuals and circumstances stop them from achieving what they aspire, which is why Sabrina will be taking this opportunity to help people overcome their hardships and think about what their next step in life will be.

Shahd Jamal

Shahd Jamal is a poet and a tutor. She has always been fascinated by the power of the mind. She believes that if you adopt the right mindset, you would automatically be able to achieve everything you set your mind to. You must not restrict yourself to thinking within the area “outside a box”. This phrase is often praised as one of the prime reasons that hinder beginnings. Shahd is confident that the only way in which you will be inspired to begin, and begin to inspire is by adopting the following mindset: Only think outside the box once you are fully aware of what resides within it.

Sultan Farooq

Sultan Farooq is an Emarati senior at Al Mawakeb School. Early on in life, he discovered a burning passion for public speaking and fueled this drive by joining his school’s MUN club. Sultan strongly condemns social standards. In his talk, he will discuss his journey of coercing himself into the norms of social standards to ultimately realizing that these norms are nothing but a facade. Through this program, he aims to exercise his knowledge and experience onto the youth of this world, in hopes of encouraging the expression of their own raw true identity.
