x = independently organized TED event

Theme: Think globally, Act locally

This event occurred on
July 30, 2020
Nangjing, Jiangsu
China

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Geven Liu

Macalester College, Economics, Statistics major
Economists have long been criticized as inhumanly rational and cold hard statisticians; but to me, economics is not supposed to be, and hasn’t always been this way. As the cold war ended, communist model appeared to be a failure and many people thought “the end of human history” has come. Economics has increasingly become numerical accounts and technical works of statistics. However, despite tremendous wealth growth, we see the largest wealth gap ever in history. As more liberal critiques arise, we have to question: are we really at the end of human history? Is free market an inevitability? How to make up for the insufficiencies of economists’ numerical accounts of the world? What is the rationale of inequality? These are the questions that have troubled and motivated me for years. I dare not promise any life commitment, but it is my heartfelt wish to bring humanity, morality, and warmth back to this discipline, and provide a more human and comprehensive account of our society.

Xuancheng Gu

A Committed Social Activist
I am Xuancheng Gu, a 10-grade student in Nanjing Foreign Language School. I am a boy who likes music and sports, while I am also interested in social cares and people’s mental health. The experience of getting in touch with the mental disablers really made me enlightened. I became very curious of their different painting styles and the way to help them out of mental affliction. I wish everybody could join me, and try to focus more on these special populations.

Yuehang Fan

President of Film Association of NFLS
Public speaking lover and huge fan of TED. What attracts me most is not only the knowledge each talk includes but also the atmosphere this stage fosters for speakers and listeners. With a free and sharing environment, the content is best if concerning both self experience and some level of deep thinking. So in this attempt of talking about “Think Globally, Act Locally”, I want to take all of you into the world of hobbies and see how a global view can boost our love for hobbies.
