In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Emily Phelps

Emily is the founder of Matrescence Perinatal Care, an organization seeking to provide superior educational and social support to new and expecting families. She works as both a birth and postpartum doula. She has her Master's in Leadership Development with a research focus in how adult learners retain information. In addition to her work as a doula, she is an adjunct professor of Women's Leadership and an experienced corporate trainer and facilitator. All of her work, regardless of venue, revolves around ensuring others have the space to speak their truths, to be heard, and the tools to cultivate their own confidence.

Ethan Crough

Ethan Crough is a middle school technology education teacher where his students learn everything from how to build a nest box for birds to how to leave a good voicemail. His diverse work background includes being an executive director and board member for nonprofit organizations, environmental educator, National Park guide, and improvisational actor. The first time he remembers engaging a crowd was while watching concrete being poured at his family’s apartment building in Princeton, New Jersey when he was six. He still enjoys talking to complete strangers and loves seeing connections being made that make great stories. Ethan is an avid outdoorsman and has been to over half of the national parks in the United States. He loves traveling, playing games and sports, and eating great food with his wife and two kids.

Kand McQueen

Kand McQueen is a nationally-recognized keynote speaker on issues of gender identity. Beginning while still a graduate student, Dr. McQueen has been speaking on this topic for over 18 years to a variety of student, professional, and community audiences in settings ranging from academic conferences and high school, college, and university campuses to mental health centers, churches, synagogues and community forums to appearances on community radio and public television. Dr. McQueen earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with a specialization in Inquiry Methodology from Indiana University’s School of Education, and formerly served as graduate faculty at two universities. Dr. McQueen is committed to educating about the existence of those who fall outside the dichotomous categories of male and female, and in the process, facilitate societal understanding and acceptance of all human beings. Katie Ingram

Katie Ingram is a seasoned ironman triathlete and experienced coach, having completed nine ironman races, dozens of half-ironman races and a multitude of other distance events which include swimming and triathlon National and World Championships appearances. Her athletes have competed worldwide and are national and world championship qualifiers in triathlon, swimming, cycling, and running. She is the author of the popular blog, Run this Amazing Day (http://www.runthisamazingday.com). After a decade coaching athletes all around the world as head coach of Team Amazing Day, Katie returned to Bloomington to obtain her Ph.D. from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business Management and Entrepreneurship program.

Monica Johnson

For the entirety of her career, Monica Johnson has been active nationally in issues dealing with access and success in higher education. She has led many presentations and workshops centered on the recruitment, retention, and success of underrepresented students and marginalized professionals for a plethora of conferences (i.e. National Association for College Admission Counseling, The College Board, the ACT, The Center for Leadership Development - Indianapolis, and National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education). Monica proudly serves as a Chair of the National Advisory Council for the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education (NCORE). Monica received her bachelor’s degree in African and Diaspora Studies from Vanderbilt University, her master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Mississippi College, and is currently completing her doctoral work as a Social Justice Fellow in Higher Education at Azusa Pacific University. Monica’s research centers on the existence, persistence, and resistance of Black women in American higher education, with an acute focus on other-mothering. Monica is the current university director of Diversity Education and Cross-Cultural Engagement and the director of the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center at Indiana University Bloomington. In her current position at Indiana University, Monica works collaboratively with a variety of departments, student organizations, and community partners on the overall support and advocacy for underrepresented communities and the recruitment, retention, support, and success of Black students.

Niyati Tamaskar

Niyati Tamaskar is an advocate for women in technology and engineering. She has spent her professional career developing electronic controls for a variety of machine applications and natural gas engines. She works as a technology planner at Cummins Inc., managing programs related to sustainability and energy security. Her passion for engineering extends to her work as regional leader of Center for Women in Technology (CWiT) North America. She promotes STEM education and strives to prioritize engineering careers among minorities. Niyati immigrated to the United States from India in 2001. She lives in Columbus, Indiana (USA), with her husband and their two children. Her hobbies include cooking, traveling the world and writing. She has authored a book called Unafraid: A Survivor’s Quest for Human Connection, a memoir about her cancer journey and the challenges of being a young survivor. All proceeds of the book are donated to the American Cancer Society.
