In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Chizuru Azuma

東ちづるは会社員生活を経て芸能界へ入り、現在ドラマから情報番組のコメンテーター、司会、講演、出版など幅広く活躍している。著書に『〈私〉はなぜカウンセリングを受けたのか～｢いい人、やめた！｣母と娘の挑戦』やエッセイ「らいふ」など多数。プライベートでは骨髄バンクやドイツ平和村、障がい者アート等のボランティアを30年続けている。2012年 福祉施設、支援団体、企業、行政、省庁、家族、個人などをつなげ、アートや音楽、映像、舞台などのエンタメを通じて、誰も排除しない「まぜこぜの社会」をめざす一般社団法人「Get in touch」を設立。記録映画『私はワタシ～over the rainbow～』の制作や、「東京2020 NIPPONフェスティバル」の公式映像『MAZEKOZEアイランドツアー』の構成・キャスティング･衣装デザイン･演出・総指揮を担当。 Chizuru Azuma left her life as a company employee to enter the entertainment industry and since then, she has been active as an actress in TV dramas, a commentator on variety TV programs, MC, lecturer, and author. Her many books include “Why Did I Get Counseling? I Stopped Being a Good Person! (A Mother and Daughter’s Challenge)” and the essay “Life”. For more than 30 years she has also volunteered with the bone marrow bank, the German Peace Village, and with Art for the Disabled. In 2012, Azuma established "Get in touch", an NPO that works through art, music, video, stage, and other forms of entertainment to create a "Mazekoze (mixed) society" in which no one is excluded. Mazekoze projects aim to connect welfare facilities, support groups, corporations, government, ministries, families, and individuals in working towards its vision. Recently, Azuma oversaw the overall composition, casting, costume design, management, and general direction of the documentary film “I am Me: Over the Rainbow” and "Mazekoze (Mixed society) Island Tour", the official film of "Tokyo 2020 Nippon (Japan) Festival".

cojicose

cojicoseはハンドパンや民族楽器、電子機器と組み合わせてサウンドヒーリング系からダンスミュージック系まで独自のサウンドをソロやユニットで追求し活動している。彼は愛好家から大変支持されているハンドパン コミュニティスタジオTAMARUのオーナーで、ハンドパン販売、レンタル、体験会の開催や、日本や海外の有名ハンドパンプレイヤーを招いてLiveイベント等も行っている。ハンドパンは、トリニダードのスチールパン、インドのガタム、タイのゴング、インドネシアのガムランの要素を総合して、20年前にスイスで初めて作られた新しい楽器である。UFOのようなフォルムから発せられる音の美しさは聴くものを一瞬で虜にするほどの魅力を持つ。心が癒やされる透き通った音色が特徴的で、その音色に魅了される人も多く、世界的に認知度が広がりつつある。 cojicose is a handpan musician pursuing his own unique style from healing music to dance music by combining handpans, ethnic instruments, and electronic devices. Performing both as a solo artist and collaborating with other musicians, he is also the founder of TAMARU, a Kyoto-based handpan community studio, which has become a hub for handpan musicians from around Japan. The handpan, which synthesizes elements of the Trinidadian steelpan, Indian ghatam, Thai gong, and Indonesian Gamelan, is a new musical instrument first created about 20 years ago in Switzerland. The sound emitted from the UFO-like steel form instantly captivates listeners through its clear and soothing tones, and the recognition of handpans is spreading worldwide. Besides performing, cojicose organizes handpan workshops and live events with musicians from Japan and abroad as well as renting and selling handpans.

John Einarsen

John Einarsen has been spellbound by the visual brilliance of our world ever since he was a child. He writes in his most recent book, “A genuine perception is pure—an unasked-for offering from the universe. For me, it is meant to be honored, expressed with fidelity, and then shared with others.” In 2010 John discovered Miksang Contemplative Photography, and for the next ten years he studied “seeing” through his photography and in 2022, he published a collection of his Miksang photographs, This Very Moment. His other photography books include Kyoto: The Forest Within the Gate (with Edith Shiffert and others), Small Buildings of Kyoto Vol. I & II, Zen Gardens and Temples of Kyoto (with John Dougill), and Curtain Motif. In 1986, along with other Kyoto-based artists and writers, he founded Kyoto Journal, a quarterly magazine providing insights from Asia. Kanho Yakushiji

愛媛県今治市臨済宗妙心寺派海禅寺の副住職の薬師寺寛邦は、僧侶であると同時に音楽家でもある。“僧侶ボーカルプロジェクト”「薬師寺寛邦 キッサコ」として、仏教の教えをわかりやすい言葉に置き換え、懐かしいポップスのメロディーとハーモニーで伝えている。仏教と音楽を掛け合わせ、般若心経に声を重ねアレンジしたアルバムを多数リリースしてきた。YouTubeでは、般若心経の演奏動画が300万回再生突破した曲をはじめ、関連動画の総再生数は世界で累計8000万回再生を超えている。2018年、2019年と中国・香港・台湾を巡るアジアツアーを開催し、約2年で1万人以上を動員。アジアでの大きな反響を受ける。2022年、著書「般若心経、私は歌う」と「心がととのう新しい般若心経CDブック」を出版。７月には初の東南アジアツアーを開催して、マレーシア、シンガポール、インドネシアで大盛況を呼ぶ。般若心経ミュージックが心をリセットするきっかけとなるように、日本からアジア、そして世界へ、仏教を音に乗せ、伝え続ける。 Kanho Yakushiji is both a Zen priest and musician. He currently serves as the deputy head priest of the Kaizenji Temple, a branch of Myoshiji-ji temple which is associated with the Rinzai Zen sect of Buddhism. Under the Monk vocal project “Yakushiji Kanho Kissaquo”, he translates Buddhist teachings into easy-to-understand words and conveys them with nostalgic pop melodies and harmonies. He has released numerous albums that combine the Buddhist teachings of the Heart Sutra with the vocal arrangements in his music. His Asian tour in 2018-2019 attracted more than 10,000 people. His first Southeast Asia tour in July across Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia was also a great success. In 2022, he published both a book "Heart Sutra, I Sing" and one audiobook "New Heart Sutra". From Japan to Asia, and then to the world, he will continue to transmit Buddhist teachings and the Heart Sutra through music to help listeners find peace of mind.

Leah Katz-Hernandez

Currently Senior Manager, CEO Platform & Communities at Microsoft, Leah previously held the position of Senior Operations Coordinator, or West Wing Receptionist, for President Barack Obama.The first ever Deaf person to hold the position, she was appointed to the West Wing after serving in First Lady Michelle Obama’s communications office. Throughout her career in the tech industry and in the public sector, Katz-Hernandez has consistently used her specialty knowledge to urge equal access for the deaf, disability, and Latinx-Hispanic communities. Since departing the White House, Katz-Hernandez advised in various capacities for multiple organizations and institutions. These include the American Association of People with Disabilities, the Ford Foundation, DDW-Discovering Deaf Worlds, Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation, and The Harkin Institute. She also served as a Special Advisor to the President at Gallaudet University, her alma-mater. Leah earned her Professional M.A. in Strategic Communication from American University and a B.A. in Government from Gallaudet University. In 2018, Leah contributed a chapter to the book “WEST WINGERS: Stories from the Dream Chasers, Change Makers, and Hope Creators Inside the Obama White House, “edited by Gautam Raghavan and published by Penguin Random House.

Lobsang Phuntsok

Lobsang Phuntsok is a former Buddhist monk whose work is focused on transformative education, sustainable development, and social entrepreneurship. In 2006, he left behind his life as a spiritual teacher in the US and returned to his native Himalayan village in Northeast India to start Jhamtse Gatsal Children’s Community—a loving home and learning environment for 125 vulnerable children. Jhamtse Gatsal means Garden of Love and Compassion, where we practice these values through an integrated educational model focused on The Three Essentials for the 21st Century: Educating the Heart, Mind, and Body. Lobsang’s life and work are featured in the Emmy Award winning documentary, Tashi and the Monk. As a renowned speaker on raising and educating children mindfully and compassionately, he has given keynote addresses at the United Nations, the Ministry of Education in Israel, and diverse educational settings within India and internationally. He has also received several prestigious awards for his work. ロブサン・プンツォクは元仏教僧で、変革的な教育や持続可能な開発、社会起業家精神に焦点を当てた活動を行なっている。2006年、米国でのスピリチュアル・ティーチャーとしての生活を後にし、生まれ故郷のインド北東部のヒマラヤの村に戻り、125人の孤児や恵まれない子どもたちに愛情に満ちた家庭と学習環境を提供するジャムセ・ガッサル子ども園を設立。ジャムセ・ガッサルとは「愛と慈しみの園」という意味で、21世紀に必要とされる「心、頭、体」の3つの要素を育む統合的な教育を実践している。ロブサンの人生と仕事は、エミー賞受賞ドキュメンタリー映画「タシと僧侶」でも紹介され、愛情を込めた子育てと教育について、国連、イスラエルの教育省、インド国内外の様々な教育現場において基調講演を行い、その功績によりいくつかの権威ある賞を受賞。

Mei Ichinose

Mei Ichinose was born with a congenital right arm deficiency and from the age of one and a half, her parents took her to the nearby Kyoto City Sports Center for the Disabled, where swimming became a normal part of her life. At age 10 Mei began to swim seriously, and at age 13 she became the youngest swimmer in history to participate in the Asian Games. For Mei, the main obstacle in life was not her short right arm, rather it was society’s perception of people with impairments. Motivated by a strong desire to change this perception, Mei swam in more national and international swimming competitions, eventually competing in eight events at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympics. In 2021, she retired from swimming and began modeling, acting, and speaking on topics related to creating a sustainable society for all. Mei also began training as a track and field athlete with a focus more in tune to her own mental and physical health, and not solely for a competitive goal. 一ノ瀬 メイは、先天的に右腕が不自由に生まれ、1歳半から両親に連れられて近くの京都市障害者スポーツセンターに通い、そこで水泳が当たり前の生活の一部となった。10歳で本格的に水泳を始め、13歳では史上最年少でアジア大会に出場した。 メイにとって、人生の最大の障害は右腕が短いことではなく、障害のある人に対する社会の認識であった。この認識を変えたいという強い思いから、メイはさらに国内外の水泳大会に参加し、ついには2016年のリオデジャネイロ・パラリンピックで8種目に出場するまでとなった。2021年、彼女は水泳を引退し、モデル、女優、そしてすべての人のための持続可能な社会づくりに関連する講演活動をはじめる。また、競技としての目標だけではなく、より自身の心身の健康を重視した陸上選手としてのトレーニングを開始した。

Naomi Koshi

西村あさひ法律事務所、ハーバード大学ロースクール、NYのDebevoise & Plimpton等を経て、2012年から2020年まで大津市長。当時最年少の女性市長として、保育園等を整備し、待機児童ゼロや人口増加を達成。市長としての功績により、世界経済フォーラムのYoung Global Leaderに選出。現在は、三浦法律事務所パートナー弁護士として、日本やシリコンバレーのスタートアップ支援、スマートシティに注力。日本・ニューヨーク州・カリフォルニア州弁護士。ブイキューブ、ソフトバンクの社外取締役。著書「公民連携まちづくりの実践―公共資産の活用とスマートシティ」（学芸出版社）。2021年、「ダイバーシティは成長戦略」を掲げ、OnBoard株式会社を起業し、女性役員の育成・紹介を行う。 Naomi Koshi is a lawyer, an entrepreneur and former mayor of Otsu City. From 2002 to 2011, Naomi practiced corporate law at Nishimura & Asahi in Tokyo and Debevoise & Plimpton in New York. From 2010 to 2011, Naomi was a Visiting Fellow at Columbia Business School. In 2012, Naomi was elected mayor of Otsu City and served a total of eight years. As the youngest female mayor in the Japan’s history at that time, Naomi successfully expanded Otsu's childcare system, thus making it easier for many women to return to the workforce, and the city’s population grew. For her outstanding achievements as mayor, she was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Naomi is admitted to practice law in Japan, New York and California and is now a partner at Miura & Partners. In 2021, Naomi Co-Founded OnBoard K.K., a company specializing in diversifying Japanese corporate boards. Naomi also serves as an outside director of V-Cube, Inc and SoftBank Corp. She holds multiple degrees from Hokkaido University, and an LL.M. from Harvard Law School.

Oussouby SACKO

京都精華大学前学長、全学研究機構長、人間環境デザインプログラム教授。マリ共和国生まれ。 国費留学生として北京語言大学、南京東南大学で学ぶ。1990年、東京で短期ホームステイを経験した後91年に再来日し、99年京都大学大学院工学研究科建築学専攻博士課程修了。博士（工学）。専門は空間人類学。「コミュニティ再生」など社会と建築の関係性を様々な角度から調査研究している。学生時代に仲間と設立した外国人支援団体【飛魚】をきっかけに日本在住外国人の労働、生活環境に関心を持ち始めた。長年にわたって学識経験者として京都府外国籍府民共生施策懇談会の委員を務めるなど、技能実習生をはじめ外国人労働者の増加に伴う社会変化や共生社会の実現に対する知見を発表している。暮らしの身近な視点から、多様な価値観を認めあう社会のありかたを提唱している。 Former President of Kyoto Seika University, Director of the University-wide Research Organization, and Professor of the Human Environment Design Program. Born in the Republic of Mali, Oussouby SACKO studied at Beijing Language and Culture University and Southeast University of Nanjing as a government-sponsored international student. He settled in Japan in 1991 and ultimately completed a doctorate degree in engineering with a specialty in spatial anthropology from Kyoto University in 1999. His research has focused on the relationship between society and architecture, and community revitalization. As a student, Sacko became interested in the living and working environments of the international community in Japan, and together with a group of friends founded Tobiuo, a support group for foreigners living in Kyoto. As a Kyoto-based educator, he has also served as a member of the Kyoto Prefectural Council for Foreign Residents' Coexistence Policies, sharing his research on how an increase in foreign workers, including technical intern trainees, can affect social changes in Japanese society. Sacko is an advocate for a symbiotic society that recognizes the positive impact a respect for diverse values can have on everyday life.

Takahiro Katsuragawa

現・京都府亀岡市長。桂川孝裕は2030年までに亀岡市で使い捨てプラスチックのない社会を実現することを宣言し、当選。自然と共生する人と都市・亀岡の実現を目指し、公益財団法人亀岡市都市緑化基金事務局長、中央環境審議会特別委員、全国市長会環境対策委員会副委員長などを歴任、その後市長として公共の場で市民と共にその理想を実現する道を選ぶ。現在、亀岡市では日本初、使い捨てプラスチックレジ袋配布・使用禁止条例を制定し、世界に誇れる環境先進都市亀岡の実現に向け取り組んでおり、その活動は多岐にひろがりつつある。 Takahiro Katsuragawa is the current mayor of Kameoka, Kyoto and was elected with his declaration to create a single-use plastic free society in Kameoka by 2030. With the goal of establishing Kameoka as an urban community in harmony with nature, he has chosen to work for that ideal in public service, serving as Secretary-General of the Kameoka City Urban Green Flower Foundation, special committee member for the Japan Central Environment Council, and Vice-chair of the Mayor’s Association Environmental Measures Committee of Japan. Mayor Katsuragawa is now leading the city’s campaign to enact Japan’s first public ordinance prohibiting the distribution and use of single-use plastic bags, as a step towards establishing Kameoka as world-class environmentally advanced city.
