In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Amaya Leger

Amaya’s best qualities are her positivity, her willingness to be open minded, and most of all, her childlike nature. Although she's fun loving like a kid, she's mature and intelligent as well. She is 17 years old and proudly attends Moncton High School with her fellow purple knights. In her free time, she likes to spend time with her good friends, to create cool art projects, or to go outside and enjoy nature. She plans to pursue a career in art with her artistic talent because its what she loves to do. She learned about the event through her writing teacher and got excited about the idea! Her goals for this event are to share her ideas effectively and to confidently speak in front of many people. Her passion lies in motivating others to be the best they can be because she sees too many people in her life without enough motivation or the right kind. She’ll be sharing her insight on how the motivation of today's youth is being negatively affected and how they can combat it. Amaya is always striving for happiness and hopes to influence others to do the same for themselves. She is very thrilled to share her ideas and to help out the youth of her community because she wants the best for everybody.

Beth Stevens

I am a student in grade 9 who attends Riverview High School. I enjoy playing many sports such as Field Hockey, Volleyball and Ice Hockey. I also run a small business called “Beth’s Bike Light”, we create bicycle safety lights that give drivers a visual of how much room cyclist need on the road. When I’m not playing sports or running my business you can find me outside hiking with my family and my dog Sam, or making lights for current generation! In my TedX talk, I will be talking about the importance of teaching real issues in the classroom, and I’ll be cracking a few corny jokes!

Brooklyn Wilkins

Brooklyn Wilkins is a 17-year-old student from Hopewell Cape, New Brunswick who loves getting involved and helping her community. She is the current Miss Teen Maritime Int'l as well as the National Canadian Teen New Brunswick. Through pageantry, Brooklyn has had countless opportunities for volunteering and appearances and has become an advocate for mental health. In the fall of 2019, she will be attending St. Thomas University for journalism and creative writing. She is planning to put her degree towards becoming a travel writer and author. She was introduced to the TedxMoncton event through her teachers at Caledonia Regional High School. She has been involved with public speaking at events like Concour D'arts Oratoire, and Phare Dans la Nuit in the past and was excited by the idea of doing her own Ted talk. She is proud to say that she will be speaking on how to sustain a healthy mental wellbeing while seizing life's opportunities at the upcoming TedxMoncton event.

Darlene Smith

Darlene finds giving back to the community very rewarding and volunteers with many organizations. She believes that everything starts and ends with your mindset, while her favourite quote being “What you focus on expands!” Darlene has been member of Toastmasters for years and compares herself to the energizer bunny!

MacKenzie Lawrence

Mackenzie is above all a dedicated academic, both when it comes to schoolwork and personal educational ventures. A proud member of the Riverview High School Community, classmates can most often find Mackenzie tutoring Mr. Donovan’s grade 9 social studies class, on the way to her co-op placement where she acts as an early-childhood educator for a local daycare, or in the library with her head buried in a book. In her free time, you can find her keeping busy with Girl Guide events, as a dedicated 9th year Ranger she tries to take any opportunity to use her leadership skills, be it planning and attending camps or helping her Brownie unit explore the world, learn new things and make new friends. As a woman who is fascinated by the culture and rituals that surround death and burial across the globe and through history, and also an aficionado of sustainable lifestyle choices, Mackenzie aims to combine these two passions to bring ideas about sustainable death care solutions to her hometown. Mackenzie has a zest for life and a love of learning that helps her do anything she sets her mind to, she is so excited to share her ideas to help inspire change in her community.

Quinn MacAskill

Quinn is a 13 year-old living in Sackville, NB who attends Marshview Middle School. She has many interests including reading, drawing, soccer, basketball, playing the fiddle, and from a young age she has been a very keen writer. Quinn also loves nature, climbing trees, gardening, hiking, camping, and canoeing. Stemming from this love of nature is her strong passion for the environment. She is part of her school’s environment club that won the ‘Youth Citizen of the Year’ Award in Sackville for making Marshview the first school in NB to have a three-stream waste sorting system. Her passion for the environment has recently been propelled further by the international youth climate strike movement. While helping to organize climate strikes in Sackville, Quinn realized the need to creatively engage people. She had combined her passions for writing and the environment, and crafted a poetry slam, a call to action for others, and has realized the power of climate art for motivating people to take on the climate crisis. The Tedx Moncton event will provide an opportunity to share this information to a broader audience, to engage people, and to help make a difference in the climate crisis.

Skye Ables

A young female leader who is a strong communicator, Skye is well on her way to fulfill one of her life goals of inspiring the next generation of girls to become trailblazers. She is a true renaissance student having been recognized in each school subject while showcasing her innovation and critical thinking skills in creating multiple successful interdisciplinary projects. Her unique perspective starts with her parents becoming permanent residents of Canada which developed her empathy for all cultures, necessity for global collaboration and importance of playing a role in her community. As a leader of Current Generation, a non-profit that builds sustainable lights giving students in developing countries the ability to study, she has discovered her passion for solving real world issues and her ability to play an integral part in the solution. Her group has been internationally recognized and she has spoken at global and national events including New York City World Maker Faire. She is attending UNB in the fall to study Engineering and hopes to pursue a career in the biomedical field in-order to build economically viable prosthesis for children suffering in war-torn countries.
