In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Julia Shahid

Julia is a member of the Teacher Education faculty at Austin College, with 43 years of experience as an educator. She previously was a teacher of gifted and talented students in grades 4 to 6 and served as a curriculum director and a principal for many years. She inspires and teaches college students who have the passion and drive to transform their communities as they prepare to become highly effective and dedicated teachers.

Kusha Mohammadi

Kusha is a 2015 graduate of Austin College and a third-year as a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. He is an intern at the Baylor College of Medicine and Memorial Hermann Trauma Center, providing statistical insight to cancer and patient care data analysis. In addition, he continues to work on his dissertation in statistical inference, on stochastic processes with applications in Alzheimer’s disease.

Lindsay Williambrown

Lindsay is a 2002 graduate of Austin College who later earned an MBA from Penn State University. She studied corporate, indigenous, and marginalization anthropology as well as the anthropology of power, global scaling, and change. Her work , Williambrown is a corporate anthropologist trained in indigenous power marginalization, and global scaling. Her work has won global business recognition from CEOs, Fortune Magazine, Forbes, DiversityInc. She is a founding member of Knarys, the standard bearer analytics platform and consultancy for high-return inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.

Minni Malhotra

Parent of Austin College alumna Saloani Malhotra’ 17, Dr. Malhotra is a graduate of Calcutta National Medical College in India. Malhotra completed her postgraduate studies in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Maharishi Dayanand University Rohtak. Board certified in family medicine and functional and anti-aging medicine, she specializes in patient centered care.

R. Aaron Flores

Aaron is a graduate of Austin College with a major in International Relations with a minor in French. He is now a real estate and communications professional and full-time volunteer based in Houston. He served on Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s transition team on public health policy and quality of life and was an inaugural appointee to the mayor’s LGBTQ Advisory Board. Aaron is the editor of The Heights, a local publication for the Houston Heights Association.

Seth Howard

Seth is a senior at Austin College, completing majors in Business Finance and Economics. He is the Vice President of the Student Assembly and a peer tutor at the Academic Skills Center. He competes as powerlifter and is the 2019 Junior Bench Press National Champion. In 2018 his silver and bronze medals earned him a spot on the U.S National Team. In the summer of 2018, he served as a Congressional Intern in the Washington, D.C., office of Representative Roger Williams of the 25th District of Texas.
