Theme: Are We There Yet?

TEDxyouth@DAA is a student-organized event with speakers and organizers ranging from 9th to 12th grade. This year's theme "Are We There Yet?" considers the gaps between the past and the present; questions contemporary social norms; and investigates our expectations of the future.

Anusha Madhusudanan

Anusha Madhusudanan, a junior at DAA, has spent her life traveling the world. Having lived in six different countries, she has difficulty pinpointing a singular culture to identify with. Her talk explores the idea of cultural ambiguity and the impact of globalization on one’s exposure, and acceptance towards different cultures.

Eduardo Aponte is a student who was diagnosed with Aspergers/ADHD. In this talk, he speaks about his experiences as an Aspie, the discrimination against people with determination, and the ways in which we are quite similar to neurotypicals.

As an East Asian living in Dubai, Jihong investigates the role of stereotypes in everyday life, and suggests ways to overcome such generalized ideas in order to achieve a truly globalized world.

Johyna Ballout is a student, speaker, and debater fascinated by how psychology can explain the major issues our society faces. In her speech, she brings to light the psychological feature of unconscious biases that secretly impacts our day to day lives, and proposes solutions to help achieve a unified society despite such biases.

After multiple experiences with her relatives, Mariam Sabry began to question the differences between generations and sought after a theory to express the friction and miscommunication between individuals from different age groups. Her talk explores the idea of dealing with a generation gap and suggests the possible ways we can bridge it.

Natalia Hara, an aspiring doctor, began to question the industry she is about to enter after experiencing a suspicious doctor encounter. In her talk, she challenges the functionality of private healthcare after coming to the realization that it is becoming more profit driven everyday.

Noah Virani is fascinated with all things computer science and physics. As an artificial intelligence engineer, Noah poses an interesting solution to solve one of the biggest problems with artificial intelligence, while also connecting this technology to humans.

Tulika Nahar

Tulika Nahar was introduced to the drastic impacts of climate change at a very young age. In her talk, she outlines the ways of conveying the idea of climate change, which would compel people to take action, instead of causing them to sit still and avoid the topic.

With the passion to create a better future, Xu Bin Ooi discusses the importance of nuclear fusion and how it can improve our lives. He explains, through his first-hand experience, the devastating impacts of fossil fuels on the environment, and aims to raise awareness about a life-changing source of energy in hopes of creating a brighter future.
