TEDxSotoSchool is an evening Youth type conference happening on Wednesday, March 20th, 2019 with an account of 21 speakers; curated from students at Sotogrande International School that are all over 16 and are driven to share their inspiring stories.

TEDxSotoSchool includes two halves and a break in which drinks are offered to parents. Furthermore, we will have 100 attendees from the local community and prior to the date, we will host a meeting with important members of the local community to promote its existence. It is an event like no other that will bring together Sotogrande community composed of individuals from over 30 different countries with the passion to share powerful ideas, interesting concepts and that have remarkable talents. All this happening here in the Sotogrande Community!

Ana Rivera

Student
Ana Rivera will be focusing her speech on the real meaning of feminism and the importance of getting the right information about a topic. She is a student that is very passionate about gender equality and plans on contributing as much to the cause further on in her university career.

Anastasiia Pantina

Student
Anastasia Pantina will be giving a speech about fashion as a way of personal expression to encourage the public to be more open - minded and confident in themselves and their choices. She is motivated to perform this speech as she wishes to bring to the public's attention to the concept of personal expression and make a positive change. Anastasia is a student, who currently studies Higher Level Arts. She is planning to develop further in this direction to become an Art critic.

Borja Barranco

Student
Borja Barranco will be performing a speech about the power technology holds on today's society and the importance of handling it responsibly. He is driven to do this speech because as a member of the future generation he intends to inform people of the potential harm that technology holds on society as well as our planet. He is currently a student at SIS studying higher level biology and chemistry and aims to study biochemistry in the future.

David Green

Teacher
David Green will be exploring the lessons learnt from the development of a permaculture project and how this has informed his teaching practice. David is committed to exploring innovations in educational environments and practices as well as promoting the design of more sustainable and regenerative cultures through education.

Elizaveta Ruleva

Liza Ruleva will be presenting the idea of how Personality changes because of other people, by only having one Identity. She will be explaining it with an interesting approach by reintroducing to the audience of what is Personality and what is Identity and telling her own story how she has changed over the years in different locations surrounded by different people.

Gabriele Morace

Gabriele Morace will be focusing his speech about the issues around today’s democracy as to how society has lost sight of social issues to concentrate on futile things. It will take into account the “social media case” in order to support his arguments and statements

Jade Burgess

Student
Jade Burgess will be focussing her speech on the world's growing population and how it is affecting the consumption of resources in many countries, specifying her research on the availability of water. She is a student who currently takes Higher Level Geography and she hopes to further her studies in this subject at university.

Jaime Antón

Jaime Anton Bermúdez de Castro has devised a speech to enrich the knowledge of his public on how to be in control and manage effectively their negative thoughts and feelings. He has a very deep interest in the given topic as he is aware of the significance and importance of giving guidance on how to manage one's emotions.

Jamie Perkins

Jamie Perkins will title his talk "White privilege, a silent epidemic". He will be focussing his speech on white privilege as he feels that this is a topic that is a grey area in today’s society that needs to be more widely spoken about. He feels like this topic has not been talked about from his perspective, therefore wants to be a voice that is worth listening to on white privilege

María Abrines

Student
María Abrines will be focusing her speech about single-use plastics and will be giving people tips about how to reduce plastic consumption informing them on the impacts the use of this has. She is a student that currently studies Higher Level Geography and Environmental Systems and Societies and aims to continue studying this in University.

Marija Segale

Marija Segale will focus her speech about her approach to life that may help some. The title for her speech is "How to survive the 21st century" and that will combine her personal experiences and some other tips she has.

Mia O'Loughlin

Mia O’Loughlin will be focusing her speech on the importance of loving ourselves and others with an open mind taking into consideration the role modern society has played in ourselves becoming our harshest critics. She is a very creative student who plans to study phycology in university and further understand the importance of diversity in the human race.

Minnah Kandeil

Minnah Kandeil is an 11th grader from St. John’s International school, in Belgium. She will be examining the value of life from a number of angles. She will put into perspective how we use technology and provide some insight on how we use technology and its effect on us. She is highly motivated to do this speech as she hopes that her audience will have a more positive output on life and will become as motivated to make the world a better place.

Miriam Laanemäe

Student
Miriam Laanemäe will be speaking about her journey navigating in the abortion debate and will be suggesting another way of looking at the issue. She's a strong supporter of women's rights and is looking into specialising in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology after earning her medical degree.

Nadia Nguru

Student
Nadia Nguru will be discussing the miseducation of Africa and focussing on how Africa is predominantly portrayed in the media in contrast with the Africa that she grew up in. Her topic, classily captioned “poverty cry, poverty why” will be centred on giving her detailed opinion of her own home Continent. She is currently a high school student, undertaking her diploma at Sotogrande International School.

Olaf Kievit

IB Teacher of Chemistry & Physics, D1 Pastoral Leader, Mindfulness Instructor
Dr Olaf Kievit will be speaking about the origins of Mindfulness in Buddhism, and the development and use of secular Mindfulness in everyday life. He has a PhD in Chemistry, teaches Chemistry, Physics, and Mindfulness, and has over 15 years of meditation experience.

Paloma Jaudel

Student
Your life is rampant with infinite possibilities, so why does it feel as though there is only one way to live it? Discovering how to weave the fabric that will form her future and that of millions like her, Paloma Jaudel delivers a message on the endless opportunities life holds and the restriction our current education system places on them.

Patrick Norton

Student
Patrick Norton will be performing a speech about smartphone addiction and the consequent time that is spent in such devices. Informing about current, shocking, statistics and how to effectively reduce the time spent on these devices. He is currently studying Mathematics and Physics at a HL in order to pursue a degree in Physics at university.

Ricardo Álvarez

Student
Ricardo Alvarez-Ossorio will be performing a speech about the euphemisms and subtle changes politicians use to convince the public into following their cause. He is motivated to do this speech as he wants his public to be aware of the manipulation techniques that politicians impose against society. He is a student that currently studies Higher Level Spanish Language and Literature and English as a second language and aims to further on read law at university.

Victoria Valero

Student
Victoria Valero Maíllo will be giving a presentation on a global topic, one which is close to her heart. This significant issue affects 1 in every 4 girls and 1 in every 6 boys before they reach the age of 18. Currently, Victoria is at the final stage in achieving her IB Diploma and looks forward to furthering her education in the study of medicine at university in Spain.

Zara Bell will be performing a speech about how social media changes our identities and alters our perception of ourselves. She is motivated to do this speech as she has realised how much social media is affecting the mental wellbeing of the world and specifically her generation. She is a student who studies Higher Level Theatre and aims to study theatre and performance at university.
