Dinesh Sukumar

Full-time national servicemen (NSFs). Expertise: General Paper
Dinesh is an average guy who has a mildly unhealthy coffee addiction and spends too much time in cafes. Beyond that, he plays guitar and is a photographer. So, why is he going to discuss the seemingly mundane topic of Critical Thinking? He used to struggle with the General Paper (GP). For perspective, He was averaging 'S' and 'U' grades at the beginning of JC2. But with continuing support of his teachers and peers, he attained an 'A' in the end. Through the process, he uncovered that GP wasn't all that hard. He saw that critical thinking was really about deliberate thought processes, rather than something abstract and difficult to grasp.

Emmanuel, Kai Xuan Wong

JC Student. Interest: Playing guitar, writing music, reading, drinking coffee and cooking
Growing up, Emmanuel didn’t have a lot of opportunities to lead and develop his skills and potential, and this resulted in him watching his siblings and friends succeed and grow from the sideline. But a chance happened in his time at St. Patrick’s Secondary, where he was given opportunities to lead an ensemble as a conductor. This fueled other opportunities and he went on to participate in panel discussions, debates and even participated in a student dialogue session with the Prime Minister. With the support of his friends and family, he has joy in living even though there are struggles, and wants to excel with all that he is and in what he can do. Young, idealistic and observant, he has made some observations of behaviours about people and their interactions with culture and surroundings, and now desires to share these with others.

Joel Tan

Financial Services Manager. Expertise: Wealth & Risk Management.
Joel graduated from the National University of Singapore with a degree in Economics and is also a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®/S) with more than a decade of experience in wealth management. On top of taking care of private, corporate and offshore clients, he leads a growing team of dynamic consultants at Zenith Alliance to do likewise, and to go beyond their best. Joel is also passionate about the needs of the elderly in the community and serves regularly in his grassroots constituency with other young working adults through youth led projects and initiatives. In his free time, he enjoys a good cup of coffee, karaoke and traveling with family and friends.

Kathy Xu

Founder / Director of the Dorsal Effect. Expertise: Marine education and conservation
Kathy is the founder of The Dorsal Effect. Having been a school teacher for 7 years and constantly advocating for her students to do good throughout her teaching career, Kathy decided to walk the talk and stepped out of the teaching profession to start The Dorsal Effect in 2013. Triggered by an intense experience while swimming alongside a whale shark in Exmouth, Australia, back in 2011, Kathy decided she wanted to do something so that future generations could still see sharks alive rather than extinct and confined to just picture books. After learning about the shark fishing and finning situation and the demand for shark fin soup, Kathy started volunteering on the education arm of Shark Savers Singapore (and still is!) It wasn’t long before she decided that more should be done on the supply side other than the demand side for shark fin soup as well, and soon found herself in Lombok talking to shark fishermen.
