In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Emma Buchtel

Assistant Professor Dr. Buchtel is a social psychologist who researches how our ideas about morality and moral character are influenced by our cultural background. She received her PhD in psychology from the University of British Columbia in 2009, and her B.A. from Yale University in 1999. In between, she spent four years in Changsha and Beijing, teaching English at the high school and university levels and learning Chinese.

Eric Yau

Post Graduate Education in English Eric's passion is sports. He played water polo, basketball and soccer while growing up in Canada. In 2011, Eric left his life as an accountant in Canada to explore China. He spent a year in the Mainland before settling in Hong Kong. Wherever he goes, Eric enjoys using sport both to connect and meet new people. Whether it is beach volleyball in Mexico, basketball in Ireland or dodgeball in Hong Kong, he has developed his social network largely through sport. In 2016, he started The Kowloon Dodgeball League. Eric currently runs Beach Volleyball Hong Kong, a club where the city's funniest beach volleyballers connect, compete and learn.

Joy Huo

Founder Joy is the Founder of BasicYeh, a zero-waste online store offering products and tips to help people starting their plastic-free journey. She believes that giving back to society and educating the next generation is the core of sustainability and donates part of her revenue to improve the basic education and living conditions of underprivileged kids. Joy graduated from the HK Baptist University and used to work as a junior manager in one of the top PR agencies in Hong Kong. She has returned to school to study design and hopes to continue spreading her message or sustainability through creating eco-friendly products and living environments.

Justin Santini

President of the Hong Kong Sacred Spaces Society Justin Santini started his career as a financial analyst at Columbia University where he managed a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from the use of New Media in Education to becoming a part of the Columbia's financial team dedicated to the construction of maintenance of the CERN Large Hadron Colliders (LHC) and the ATLAS Experiments. After arriving in Hong Kong and a brief stint in traditional financial services, Justin found his way back into education as a teacher and consultant. He's also President of the Hong Kong Sacred Spaces Society, an organization dedicated to inclusive intercultural dialogue through onsite visits and discussions. Justin also likes to put his undergraduate Cinema Studies degree to work by watching and sharing movies that almost no one else is likely to see.

Lavine Hemlani

CEO & Founder Lavine is passionate about eliminating the financial barrier between education and opportunity for motivated learners to unleash their potential. Prior to Xccelerate, Lavine co-founded FLYR and worked with deep learning start-up Thread Genius. Lavine began his career in investment banking in NYC at Lazard M&A and held roles at the following funds: Atlas, Marwar Capital and Union Park Capital

Lovepreet Kaur

Bachelor of Education Student As an ethic minority born and brought up in Hong Kong, Lovepreet understands the struggle of what's it like to be an outsider at home. Lovepreet lives by the quote; "He who asks is a fool for five minutes but he who does not ask remains a fool forever." Hence, her curiosity and confidence always allowed her to be a keen leaner. Lovepreet had been exposed to people of various cultures from a very young age and attended high school with a very diversified community where there were teachers and students from over 40 countries. Over the years, Lovepreet has also taken up diverse leadership roles, such as Prefect, Student Ambassador, Class representative and Mentor.

Shveitta Sharma

Founder & Chief Happiness Officer Shveitta Sethi Sharma is the founder and Chief happiness Officer of School of Happiness that aims to open hearts, enlighten minds and enrich lives. She is a crusader for positive change. She believes that with the right knowledge, right thinking, right words and right action we can completely reinvent ourselves. A series of personal adversities prompted her to search for the meaning of happiness. For over a decade she has been learning and sharing her findings via talks and workshops.
