Ahang Leqola

Student Speaker
Ahang Leqola is a 17-year-old South African Male High School Student, set to graduate in the year 2020. Ahang's father passed when he was about 6 years old, as a result since the age of 7 he has pursued interests in biological and human sciences, taking many Advanced Placement classes centered around these principles. Ahang's dream has since been to become a surgeon, and in this aspiration, has researched physician lifestyles, perused different data sets and as a result has become highly concerned with medicines psychological effects on practicing physicians.

Anika Cherukuri

Student Speaker
Anika Cherukuri is a student at the American International School of Cape Town. She was born in Michigan, moved to Chicago, and grew up in Seattle, Washington. She now lives in Cape Town, South Africa. Anika’s family owns a non-profit organization, helping young Indian girls to learn and stay in school.

Cassandra Owei

Student Speaker
Cassandra Owei is a Nigerian student at the American International School of Cape Town. Although Nigerian, she was born in Germany and brought up in South Africa. This global perspective has brought her in touch with many different cultures. Cassandra’s belief that all people should have basic rights and be treated equally led her to co-found the charitable company Caps For Care, a social enterprise that aims to help children in need. For her work with her company, she has been awarded the AISA Service and Leadership Award.

Gemma Moolman

Student Speaker
Gemma Moolman is a South African born student currently entering her senior year at the American International School of Cape Town. She is a born and raised creative with an affinity for the arts (theatre, film, makeup music, etc.) and a trained vocalist who regularly attends and takes part in live performances. Gemma has been fascinated by the controversial and the shocking from a very young age and subsequently began to take a liking to counterculture ideals such as drag and playing with gender. As Gemma struggled with her identity during her prepubescent years, she found refuge in drag culture and performance art, creating elaborate makeup looks in her room, lip-synching to the Rocky Horror soundtrack, and finding a way to express of herself on a metaphysical level. Drag represents many of the ideals that Gemma identifies with and supports such as breaking societal boundaries, starting a conversation, peaceful rebellion and the freedom of self-expression.

Miranda Mbetse

Student Speaker
Miranda Mbetse is a student at the American International School of Cape Town. She is both South African and German, having spent most of her life exploring different countries and their diverse cultures. Her inquisitive and creative nature led her to accumulate more knowledge about the global community as well as through the different continents she has lived in. Miranda's passion revolves around architecture, seeking inspiration through the natural world ranging from the ocean to the trees of South Africa. In order to make the buildings and infrastructure in today’s society more resistant to natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes, she believes in the necessity to incorporate biomimicry for a stronger and secure building framework.

Nina Gibson

Student Speaker
Nina is a South African student at the American International School Of Cape Town. She is very interested in activism and believes that everyone should have equal rights and responsibilities. She wants to get her message out and into the world, and believes that doing TEDx will help her on this journey.

Oliver Krok

Hi, my name is Oliver Krok. I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I Am going to be the MC for the TEDx talk evening. I plan on having a very positive effect on everyone's night and experience of the TEDx talk. I will be introducing every speaker and inserting some few jokes in-between.
