x = independently organized TED event

This event occurred on
September 27, 2019
Sonepat, Haryana
India

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Arnav Mohan Gupta

If Arnav’s desktop screen is to be believed, he’s an almost writer, a waiting for inspiration painter, a many times nearly out there entrepreneur, a sky pictures only photographer, a still learning coder, a really really hopeful singer, a pretty terrible journalist, a hidden gem in stand up comedy, and only recently, a first time TEDx speaker.

Debayan Gupta

Debayan currently teaches computer science at Ashoka. He also holds visiting faculty and research affiliate positions at MIT and MIT-Sloan. He is a voracious reader, a competent carpenter, and is deeply interested in innovative teaching techniques. Before coming to Ashoka, Debayan held an Extraordinary Faculty position in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, where he taught courses like 6.042, 6.006, and 6.046. He has a PhD from Yale (under Prof. Joan Feigenbaum), and a bachelor's degree from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. Debayan's primary areas of interest include secure computation, cryptography, and privacy. He occasionally dabbles in number theory, complexity theory, robotics, and machine learning (and, on rare occasions, economics). Debayan has helped start a number of companies in India and abroad, and as such, holds board positions in various start-ups. He also consults for and advises companies on cybersecurity, helping c-suite individuals understand and mitigate cyber-risk.

Naman Bhatnagar

What do a garbage disposal crisis in a Haryana village and empathy have in common? Naman Bhatnagar, a psychology student at Ashoka University, believes that empathizing with people is essential to successfully framing and solving problems facing businesses and society today. Naman has experimented with empathy in a variety of situations. As an intern at Fulki Communications, an advertising agency, Naman earned a presenter role in client pitches by being able to get clients and media planners to understand and collaborate with each other. This, combined with his learnings and real-life application of Design Thinking made him adept at working the root of the problem instead of focusing on tried and tested solutions. Outside academics, Naman runs a baking society and likes to swim.
