In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Abhijit Jejurikar

Musician + Marketing Professional
Abhijit Jejurikar, the founder and curator of Dharavi Reloaded, is a marketing professional by day and a musician by night. Dharavi Reloaded which is a music project was created to give kids from Dharavi a platform to express themselves and showcase their extraordinary talents. The initiative aims at enriching their lives, while also aspiring to create a bond between different communities. This band uses Junk-Percussions to create music from waste materials found in the slums of Dharavi, such as drum barrels, coffee shakers, paint cans, plastic boxes and a lot more, bringing to the fore the concept of Recycle, Reuse & Respect. Abhijit has been teaching and mentoring children in the age group of 12-22 years in the band for the last 9 years. They have traveled and performed at major cities across India.

Coomi Vevaina

Educator + Storyteller + Author
An educator, storyteller, researcher, and author we are glad to present Dr. Coomi Vevaina as our second speaker. Dr. Vevaina is the former head of the Department of English, University of Mumbai. She has won several awards such as the G.S Rao memorial award for outstanding contribution to the teaching of English (2012), Best Researcher and teacher in the University of Mumbai (2009), Award of merit from the Indian Association of Canadian studies to name a few. She has created “Wordfully Yours”, an association which aims to train adults in the art of storytelling and has also authored several stories for children like “Bernice Banana” and “Angry Angara”. She has authored 10 books and 58 articles in various prestigious journals. She is also responsible for designing an innovative, learner-centric approach to education techniques. Her 2013 book “Source-full Intelligence: Understanding uniqueness and Oneness through Education” was one of the 18 best-published books in the USA.

Kavish Seth

Singer + Songwriter + Poet
Kavish Seth is an independent artist, singer, songwriter, poet who writes primarily in Hindustani. When Kavish felt the need of finding his own sound and thus connecting with people, he invented his own instrument, Noori, which was born two years ago as a hybrid 14-stringed instrument shaped like a guitar, but with a wooden frame covered in goat skin to produce percussive sounds like those of a djembe. His project, Zubaan, is a musical project started by him where several independent artists from different musical linguistic scenes from across India, come together, collaborate and perform across the mainlands. He has not only collaborated with famous artists of their respective areas but also looked out for talented people even if they're farmers or fishermen, and provided them a stage to let people be acquainted with different forms and languages of music.

Mazda Turel

Neurosurgeon
Mazda Turel is an alumnus of Grant Medical College and Sir J.J. groups of Hospitals in Mumbai. He has also pursued an M.Ch degree in Neurosurgery from the Christian Medical College in Vellore, India, where he was awarded the Jacob Chandy Gold Medal; a feat achieved by only 4 other graduates. He is a prolific researcher who has 80 publications in reputed scientific journals. He is the proud recipient of many national and international accolades. Dr. Turel's specialization is the treatment of diseases of the brain and spine. He is known for bringing a new approach to neurosurgery that is both balanced and aggressive. He believes in an inclusive approach where the patient's family, medical staff and his own team work together to help the patient. He is currently practicing as a Neurosurgeon at the prestigious Wockhardt Hospitals, South Mumbai, as well as Assistant Honorary Professor at his alma mater, Grant Medical College and Sir J.J. group of hospitals.

Mehek Malhotra

Visual Artist
Mehek is a graduate of NIFT where she won the best graduation award. Currently, she is the CEO of Giggling Monkey Studio where she has successfully designed many cool and popular logos that we see daily. She has won many accolades like the 25 under 25 by campus diaries, VH1 and TATA Nano in 2016. Her work has been featured in several prestigious fashion magazines like Rolling Stone and Vogue She also speaks at various colleges in order to influence people to pursue alternate careers. She has also spoken about issues that she believes need a Paradigm Shift through her much-acclaimed matchbox series. Mehek has worked closely with musicians to produce music videos that are nationally and internationally acclaimed.

Nadia Nooreyezdaan

Culture Editor
Nadia Nooreyezdan is the culture editor of The Swaddle, which is a parenting and family health site for a new generation of Indian parents. Her articles cover issues at the intersection of gender and politics. She is invested in feminist theory, pop culture, and queering everything. Since graduating from Columbia Journalism School, she spends her time thinking about desifuturism and social justice sci-fi. She’s also working on a memoir about her family’s journey from Iran to India.

Nuru Karim

Architect
Nuru Karim is the Founder and Design Principal of Nudes, a practice which operates within the realms of cross-disciplinary cultures of public art, architecture-urbanism and computational design optimization/ fabrication powered by digital 'making' tools that address large networks of social, cultural and environmental problems by solving them. He received his Masters in Architecture and Urbanism from the Architectural Association [AADRL] London, United Kingdom. He has worked for Zaha Hadid Architects, London. His undergraduate studies included travel and education in the cities of Mumbai, Montreal, New York and London. Nuru's projects have received critical recognition both for their built work in competition and also design. His works have received several awards including a nomination for the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in the 2013 cycle.

Prashant Momaya

Data Scientist
Prashant Momaya is a data scientist who is the Customer Consulting Leader of Tableau Software, India, and is responsible for pre-sales and customer success in the country. Prashant, who is an M.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Delhi, worked with SAS Visual Analytics as Product Manager prior to Tableau. He executed pre-sales and project implementations for the customers across India. He has also spent years in the Business Intelligence and Analytics market, across R&D, consulting, pre-sales and product management. He has been instrumental in driving go-to-market strategies around presales, customer solutions and product demo solutions at Tableau and SAS. He has a strong consulting service background from his days at TCS in supply chain management and aftermarket service solutions, especially in the manufacturing domain.

Saurabh Gupta

Environmentalist
A renowned environmentalist and a social entrepreneur, this young revolutionary left his lucrative job to bicycle around different countries for 50,000 kilometers in search for a purpose. Meet Saurabh Gupta, the founder and director of Earth5R, a Mumbai based global environmental organization. Winner of the Young Leader India-France award by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and the project leader of Paris Peace Forum, this exciting man is bringing a Paradigm Shift, one locality at a time. He believes that no government can do what citizens can do collectively and so he thought of solving this sustainability issue through a citizen-led program known as “ACT Global”. This mission is driven by a global community of 35,000 people and has benefited around 1.2 million people at the bottom of the pyramid by giving them financial literacy.
