Theme: Life Finds a Way

This event occurred on
April 26, 2019
Newcastle, Northumberland
United Kingdom

This TEDX event endeavours to be both an investigation and celebration of the resilience of humanity in its myriad forms. We wish to offer an expansive take on this notion looking to discuss neurodiversity, and the dangers of apathy and generational divides in perspectives, thus looking to both our future and our pasts in order to begin to unpack the reasons we are what we are and how we have come to be. We wish to approach this idea from an array of angles: from the scientific and the academic to the pragmatic and the personal combining these to provide a holistic view on self, mind, health and their futures. Our speakers include academics, campaigners, comedians, artists and dogs - a full programme can be found here.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to a charity.

When young people struggle with their wellbeing and mental health they often use coping behaviours that can be difficult for their parents and carers to understand. When they talk to their GPs they comment that explaining such behaviours and feelings to their parents can feel impossible. This TEDx talk aims to look at some of these behaviours that parents find so challenging, and offers a new way for parents to interpret and empathise with their children. The hope is that this will allow parents and carers to better support their young people’s mental health and wellbeing, building their resilience for the future.
