AN OPEN DISCUSSION ON LEARNING & EDUCATION

In an era where disruption is the main keyword, the only certainty is uncertainty. Parents and schools alike are scrambling to figure out how to prepare the current generation for jobs that don’t yet exist. This movement has sparked a new buzzword: Futureproof.

How do we prepare children who will thrive in a future that is filled with constant shifts and flux?

With that in mind, in this salon, we would like explore the following questions:

• What are traits that children who are futureproof should possess?
• What kind of education is necessary for nurturing such children?
• What are the challenges we face in transitioning from the current education system to a futureproof one, and how can we resolve these challenges?

To do so we have assembled a panel of speakers, to provide a range of perspectives on the matter.

Amutha Saravanan

Co-founder of Da Vinci Group
Amutha did her Masters in Social Sciences, Psychology by Research with a focus in Clinical Neuropsychology at the National University of Singapore. She did her research on mild traumatic brain injury patients and their post concussive symptoms at the National Neuroscience Institute in Singapore.

Eeva Chang

Language Educator + Media Professional
From training MOE Teachers to coaching famous figures such as JJ Lin and Sam Goi, Eeva has been involved in language-related work for more than 30 years. An award-winning radio DJ and producer, Eeva is passionate about harnessing the power of media for education and culture.

Kevin Haldeman

Associate Staffing Lead at Google
Kevin manages the Southeast Asia Sales, Marketing, and Partnerships recruiting team at Google. After doing his Bachelor of Arts in International Studies at The Ohio State University, he relocated to Tokyo, Japan where he spent the past 12 years before relocating to Singapore in October. He has a 3 year old daughter whom he would like to futureproof.

Lilian Lee

Designer + Creator of Say What?
Lilian is the founder and creator of Say What?, a fun card game to learn languages while playing. Currently, there are Cantonese, Hokkien, Mandarin, Singlish, Japanese and Bahasa Melayu. Lilian loves learning new things and grew up with a super curious mind. One of her natural talent is picking up new languages easily, new skills and adapting to different cultures easily. Her background is in Design and UX. In her free time, she loves to travel to off beaten tracks, staying with the locals and her thirst of the world has never stopped since young. She credits all this to her colorful childhood growing up.

Saravanan Manorkorum

Co-founder of Da Vinci Group
Saravanan did his Bachelor of Science from the National University of Singapore with a focus in Neurobiology. He gained extensive research experience in Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory and A*STAR. His work involved understanding neuronal path finding and neuroreceptor associations

Swaine Chen

Geneticist
Dr. Swaine Chen is a Senior Research Scientist in Infectious Diseases at GIS and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore. He has a broad background in medicine, biology, and chemistry. In his lab, he studies not only why some bacteria cause infections, but also tries to develop new methods so that we can diseases more quickly in the future.
