In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

“ Benjamin Lehner was born and raised in Austria. He obtained a Bachelor and Master degree in general Biology from the University of Salzburg where he also worked for two years in scientific anti-terror consulting (EU projects CATO and BRIDGE). In 2015, he joined the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne as an intern to work together with the DLR on life-support systems followed by a few months supporting the European Astronaut training. He started a PhD at TU Delft in the applied science faculty in 2016 and still holds this position. During his PhD he kept doing experiments at the European Space Agency and spent six months at NASA Ames research center in California to further advance his research.”

His thesis focused on the functionality and importance of cash and the system it functions in. He is continuing his efforts of communicating the importance of cash and discovering ways to ensure the continuation of cash within an increasingly cashless society.

Joris Dik

Joris (*1974, Amsterdam) studied art history and classical archaeology at the University of Amsterdam. From 1995-96 he was a Getty Graduate Intern at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. He then obtained a PhD from the University of Amsterdam, focusing on historical pigment technology. In 2003 he joined Delft University of Technology to set up a research line on materials in art and archaeology. He was appointed Antonie van Leeuwenhoek professor in 2010, he is an alumni of the KNAW-Young Academy and is vice chairman at the dept of materials science and engineering.

Ms. Meike van Ginneken is passionate about fighting poverty. In her 20+ years career spanning five continents she has helped large numbers of people gain access to energy, water, and sanitation services. She has lived in Bangladesh, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Colombia, El Salvador, India, Israel, Sudan, Tanzania and the USA. Meike van Ginneken is currently the Chief Executive Officer of SNV, a leading development organisation based in The Netherlands. Previously she held various leadership positions during her sixteen years at the World Bank, including leading its energy program in West- and Central Africa from 2012 to 2016. Earlier she worked for the Global Water Partnership and Doctors Without Borders. She has a record of building multi-stakeholder alliances and driving operational excellence. In a world where currently 250+ million people live outside their origin country and 8+ million people travel in every single day, the chance that these people need access to their health records abroad is only ever increasing. Transferring or carrying these health records with you, however, at the moment is either near impossible or is usually done in a very unsecured way. As global nomads, my family and I suffered from several life-critical situations, because we did not have our health records with us everywhere we moved or travel to. As a computer science student and a tech-enthusiast, such lack of a digital solution for this problem were unacceptable. So, I first asked myself, "What if there was a solution to this?" and then, I set off the pursuit to find that. And now, after months of research, here I am, to share the good news with you! There is a technological solution.
