TEDxYouth@Upanga is hosted by the International School of Tanganyika for the past 3 years. It is organized by a group of dedicated high school students. The event will bring together youth from around the Dar es Salaam community under one roof to share ideas and explore different perspectives of the theme Breaking Boundaries.

Aliraza Dewji

Aliraza is a very committed and hard-working student. He is currently in grade 9 and is only 14 years old and is from Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. He has been in the Intentional School of Tanganyika for eight years now. He loves public speaking which caused him to join the MUN program and finally reach his goal of being a chair. He joined TEDx to express his feelings on mental health and inform us more about it.

Jonas Ladenson

Jonas Ladenson is a fifteen-year-old student at the International School of Tanganyika in Dar es Salaam. Over the course of his life, he has lived in seven countries across three continents and travelled to many places. This has given him a desire for adventure which he seeks to fulfil constantly. Above you can see a picture of him on the top of Kilimanjaro. He believes that fulfilling the desire to experience something new is essential to personal growth and tries to push himself constantly. To him, it is more important than the need for adventure itself.

Nassor AL-Hilal

Nassor R. AL-Hilal, is a grade 11 student at DIA. He has been attending the school for 3 years now and he is known to be actively involved in sports and constantly aims to challenge himself academics. He strives to be better each time. He spends most of his free time reading facts as he likes to be surrounded by curious open-minded people with a diverse set of thinking. He has a dream. His dream is to end global warming because he does not want the winter to get any warmer otherwise he will fail to escape Dar during the holidays.

Rahmat Rashid

Rahmat Rashid is a student in her last year at Almuntazir Islamic Seminary. She has a passion for speaking her mind and encouraging others to do the same. Rahmat believes being opinionated is a right -- regardless of economic status, race or gender. Her speech will be focusing especially on how and why free speech regarding menstrual health will uplift our global society.

Shaukatali Zahir Hussein

Shaukatali is a Mechatronics engineer and Entrepreneur. Having founded Robotech Labs, a startup organization that drives the youth and fellow thinkers to bring forth their innovative ideas by providing them with the necessary practical skillset, he has established himself as a “maker and breaker”, inspiring others to learn through his experience. He spends most of his time working on programs for schools and students alike based on STEM and particularly Robotics, where he finds the future for the African Revolution. His favorite hobbies being swimming and reading, Shaukatali aims to inspire others to pursue what they love doing the most and building a foundation from it.

Shivani Kakkad

Student at the International School of Tanganyika, Shivani is a student who is born and brought up in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. She has attained a vision towards the prospect of change by being involved in a vast array of activities, including teaching and learning. She is extremely passionate about advocating for the rights of orphans, and her love for this had also led to the creation of her Personal Project, a documentary: "Inside the Heart of a Yatima". To some extent, this formed the main influence on her TedX Idea regarding the formation and belief of dreams. With the rapid evolution of the world, people often think too much and feel too little. Her TEDx talk will be based on how the dreams we have can be pictured into reality, "Believe in your dreams. They were given to you for a reason!"

Tim Goundry

He is the Head of English Language and Literature at the International School of Tanganyika in Dar es Salaam. He has a degree in English Literature, a Master's degree in Education Leadership and has been teaching for seven years in the UK and Tanzania. He loves stories, whether they are told in books, movies or between friends. He believes that they are how humans connect and how we make sense of the world.

Zohraida Karim

My name is Dr. Zohraida Karim and I hold a doctorate in Early Childhood Education. I bring with me a rich experience of 19 years in the field of education where I’ve worked with children from the age of 2 years to 13 Years. My aim as an experienced, ambitious, goal-driven and dedicated educationalist is to promote effective learning as well as render my knowledge, experience and expertise in all aspects starting from organizational management to facilitating students in terms of teaching them the values and principles of life; to create an atmosphere that fosters learning and using effective & efficient methods of teaching whilst focusing on the individual needs of each student and implement stimulating ideas. Apart from working on my passion, I enjoy reading, travelling, making new friends, meeting people and inspiring others to do their very best.
