Theme: Evolution

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Adriano Di Giovanni

Research Scientist

Adriano is a 39 years old experimental particle physicist. He spends most of his time designing and building sensors for radiation detection. Before joining NYUAD, he used to work in the world's largest underground infrastructure for particle physics, the Gran Sasso Laboratory. He strongly believes that basic research is the engine of progress and the trigger of true innovation. He will present a story that inspired him to pursue a career in physics: a story made of outstanding people that with their perseverance and commitment tried to unveil the deepest mystery of the Universe.

Farha Sherief

As an Arab Muslim woman, Farha has experienced her fair share of discrimination and prejudice. However, after careful examination of herself, she realised that she too might be guilty of unconcious bias and so are most people she meets. In her talk, she explains why we have come to have these unconcious and how we can work on improving our mindset.

Malavika Suresh

Malavika Suresh is a 19-year old college student that revels in her own identity crisis. She is on a life mission to make sense of life through Spoken Word Poetry in an attempt to not only be content in herself but also to be able to be clever in answering the infamous interview question, “tell me something about yourself.” Her mission has taken her all across Dubai performing for global brands like Apple and Lush as well as sharing and honing her craft with like-minded individuals at various open mics. She believes that art is the key to understanding the things we are expected not to understand and hopes to use her art to ease the anxiety of being surrounded by the unknown not only for herself but also for those around her.

16 year old high school student Sara Shikooh revels in the world of literature and the significance of words; molding them to help her communicate intricacies she follows up with nonverbal forms of expression. Her talk centers around the idea that language truly is the bridge, not the barrier, between nations- and that there is more to it than spoken/written word.
