If you have an “idea worth spreading,” then we want YOU to apply to be a speaker at TEDx Youth Concord Carlisle 2019
an independently organized, licensed TED event taking place on March 2nd, 2019, hosted at Concord Carlisle High School.

We are putting out a call to find 15 amazing speakers between the ages of 13-19 to make TED style speeches addressing the theme, “Young people making a difference, right now.”

We are committed to assembling a racially, culturally and ideologically diverse range of speakers.

Deadline for applications is December 3rd, no exceptions!

Anna Kitagawa

Anna Kitagawa attends Concord Carlisle Regional High School. She enjoys running and playing the viola.

Asia Adams-Lamar

Asia Adams Lemar attends a Boston public school called Techboston Academy. She aspires to a career in medicine.

Caitlyn O'Leary

Caitlyn Rose O’Leary is an 18 year old art student who created "Fright Night," a YouTube horror series. Whether it’s drawing, writing, or creating and editing videos, the arts are her passion! "Wherever I go, adventure ensues."

Camaryn Petersen

High school senior Camaryn Petersen became interested in newborn medicine after her cousin Connor, born prematurely, passed away. Since then she has aspired to help other infants survive the fight Connor lost. She has started fundraisers, hosted collection drives, and donated handmade gifts in his honor, under the title Project 259. She plans to become a neonatologist and conduct research on newborn genetics.

Charlie Peachey

Charlie Peachey is a college freshman with a passion for meteorology. Throughout his time in high school he contributed to the launch of three different weather balloons, created a weather themed educational event for the community, presented research at two professional level conferences, collaborated with a school in New Jersey to better the weather balloon launches, and taught other students about the basics of the atmosphere using data from the several different weather balloon launches. He has also been accepted to a national science foundation research project focused on improving undergraduate STEM education in the geosciences through the tracking of water in the white mountains lake shed system.

Coco Huang

Coco Huang is a senior at Concord Academy who has been devoting her time to environment conservation for five years. She is the founder of Shenzhen Foreign Languages School and Indian Mountain School environmental club, as well as a certificated volunteer of Shenzhen Green Development Foundation, of Development and Reform Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, and of the Nature Conservancy. She founded 350SZ, the first China mainland branch of the international environmental organization 350.org and created a website for it (www.350sz.org). In her environmental activities, she has been trying to incorporate community-based conservation, which means encouraging the local people to participate in conservation programs. She led and participated in this process of community empowerment in three very different communities: Shenzhen Foreign Languages School, Heqing village, and Mt.Laojun.

Ella Baker Puttini

Ella Baker-Puttini is a Junior at Concord Carlisle High School, a teen owner of a small chocolate business, and an advocate for domestic violence awareness.

Eva Ferguson

High school junior Eva Ferguson is passionate about reforming the American healthcare system because of her experience with chronic illness. During school hours, she is an avid student of Latin and Chemistry; in her free time you can find her on the potter's wheel.

Haley Wixom

Haley is a senior at Concord Academy and co-leads school's Big Data Club. The club learns and applies data analytics to real-world problems. This year, the club competed in the Teradata Analytics Challenge, a global collegiate competition, as the competition’s first high school team. The CA team used public data to investigate US gun violence in schools. In October 2018, Haley and her club co-head presented the CA project at Teradata’s global conference in Las Vegas and won the People's Choice Award for Best Presentation. Haley also works as the high school board member for the Teradata University Network (TUN), a nonprofit dedicated to making data analytics resources accessible to students and educators. Haley creates and adapts data and analytics resources for high school audiences. To help launch TUN’s High School Initiative, Haley co-keynoted a Women in IT Conference held at Xavier University.

Jade Darling

Jade J. Da'Costa Darling is a senior at Excel Academy Charter High School in East Boston who plans to go into politics and/or law. "My best friend is failure and I truly believe laughter is the best medicine."

Jennifer Miller

Jennifer Miller is a senior at Maynard High School and a filmmaker. Her film, "What Is Beauty" placed in the top ten for the Student Five Minute Documentary Competition for the Salem Film Festival. It was also nominated as Best Documentary in the All American High School Film Festival, and was shown in NYC's Times Square.

Joseph Vann

Joseph Vann is a high school student whose my main goal is to leave his mark on the world, to do something positive that changes how we live life or why we are living.

Justin Moy

Justin Moy is a college freshman at Worcester Polytechnic Institute majoring in bioinformatics and computational biology. He was born with congenital muscular dystrophy, but firmly thinks that his disability shouldn’t limit his experiences. Justin loves to travel and has visited Japan, China and Thailand, among other places. Outside of school, Justin enjoys musical theater, and the outdoors. Justin believes that wasting time thinking about how you could fail only stops you from taking the time to succeed. He hopes that by pursuing bioinformatics and computational biology, he can ultimately cure diseases like his.

Kierthan Lathrop

Kierthan Lathrop is a junior at CCHS. He has been involved in theater since elementary school, principally with Concord Youth Theatre. Aside from giving TEDx talks, Kierthan runs cross country and track. He also plays cello in chamber groups for various senior centers and churches in the local area. Kierthan hopes that this talk will encourage others to become involved in and support local community theater and performance arts.

Kundal Sharda

Kunal Sharda is a Junior at Acton Boxborough Regional High School. He has a passion for software development in which he has worked on various projects, entrepreneurship and volunteering. As such, he is highly engaged with learning about the latest trends in technology and their near term impact. Through such ventures, he has founded a startup in the Blockchain technology and Healthcare field and is hoping to help bring such technologies to solve inefficiencies in current systems.

Laura Pohl

Laura Pohl is a senior at Concord Carlisle High School, Captain of the Varsity Competition Cheerleading squad, piano player and artist as well as dog lover. This talk involves some of her work in animal rights activism.

Maxwell Surprenant

Maxwell Surprenant, 15 years old, serves as Co-Founder and Creative Director of Catching Joy, Inc., a nonprofit which promotes volunteerism and acts of kindness beginning with kids, teens, and their families. His short film, "Catching Joy: The Impact of Giving Back," won Honorable Mention in the 2015 White House Student Film Festival, and he was honored to meet President Barack Obama. He attended the 2016 South by South Lawn: A White House Festival of Ideas, Art, and Action. Maxwell has earned national awards for service: John F. Kennedy "Make a Difference" Award, The Gloria Barron Prize, Peace First Challenge Prize, Lady Gaga's Born This Way "Channel Kindness" Award, GenerationOn's Hasbro Community Action Hero, and Dana Farber Cancer Institute Jimmy Fund Big Idea Winner. He won the 2017 “Digital4Good” Award and presented his ideas at Twitter HQ in San Francisco. Currently, Maxwell writes for HS Insider/ LA Times covering art, sports, and politics. He’s worked as a Kid Reporter for Sports Illustrated and Scholastic, for which he interviewed former First Lady Michelle Obama, former VP Joe Biden, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and journalist Anderson Cooper. Maxwell was the youngest reporter covering the 2016 Presidential Campaign and attended the Democratic National Convention. He won two National Medals in the 2018 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards- Journalism and Essay/Personal Memoir. Maxwell attends the St. Sebastian's School in Needham, MA. He’s active with art, music, theater, debate, soccer, and plays catcher for his school and travel baseball teams.

Sarika Chawla

Sarika Chawla is a senior at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School in Acton, MA. This past summer, she interned in the biological research lab of Nobel Laureate Dr. H. Robert Horvitz at MIT. Further, she has founded a Girls in Science Club at school to foster middle school girls’ interest in science and help reduce the gender gap in STEM fields. Aside from the sciences, Sarika is an avid reader and creative writer; she is editor-in-chief of her school literary magazine, and her work has been recognized by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Sarika’s love of language extends beyond English. She has been learning Spanish since seventh grade, and this summer, she started studying the basics of Catalan as well. Since junior year, she has been pioneering an initiative through which she encourages students to submit writing in foreign languages to the literary magazine. She hopes to eventually learn all the Romance languages and become fluent in Hindi and Punjabi, which her family speaks. Additionally, Sarika has a passion for music. She co-leads an Indian-fusion a cappella group and is a member of her school’s choral program. Sarika will attend Harvard University in the fall, where she intends to study biology and computer science, continue pursuing her extracurricular passions, and advocate for disability rights.

Seina Harrigan

Siena Harrigan is a sophomore at Hopkinton High School. She is actively involved in the international club at Hopkinton, which works to welcome the international exchange students and helps them get accustomed to the school. Recently, she served on a student panel for a diversity and inclusion forum, and plans to do more with that in the future. Siena enjoys taking French at school and learning about world cultures. She is also involved in high school softball. This summer, Siena had the opportunity to visit a school for girls in The Gambia, West Africa. She spent three weeks at the school teaching classes, taking classes, getting to know the students, and learning about Gambian culture. This experience changed her outlook on many world issues and aspects of her own life, and it has inspired her to share the school’s story. As a result, Siena has become a strong supporter and advocate for girls’ education.

William Beguhn
