In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

John Dempsey

Professor at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan
John Dempsey was born in Detroit and currently lives and works in Flint, Michigan, where he has maintained a studio for over 25 years and where he taught painting, drawing, and design at Mott Community College. He currently teaches at the College for Creative Studies, in Detroit, MI. His work is included in the collection of the Flint Institute of Art and the South Bend Museum of Art. His work is represented in various public art commissions including the Pfizer Co., Groton, Connecticut, and the General Motors SPO Headquarters, Grand Blanc, Michigan. John's work entitled, "Sunday Night/Monday Morning" was selected out of over 1,000 submissions to be included in the featured exhibition, Enduring Ideals: Rockwell, Roosevelt & The Four Freedoms.

John O'Shea

Curator of Great Lakes Archaeology at the University of Michigan Museum
John O'Shea is the Emerson F. Greenman Collegiate Professor of Archaeology in the Department of Antropology. He received his PhD in Preshistoric Archaeology at Cambridge University in 1979. In addition to underwater research, he is active in terrestrial archaeology in the Great Lakes region and in the Bronze Age of Eastern Europe. He investigates both historic era shipwrecks and submerged prehistoric settlements, with a particular focus on Lake Huron in the North American Great Lakes.
