James River High School's Leadership and International Relations Center hosts its very own independently organized TEDxYouth event, TEDxYouth@JamesRiverRoad! Our event is the second day of our freshman summer institute. Our theme this year was Anonymous Extraordinaries: ones who appear ordinary but do the extraordinary. Though the power of new ideas, heroic thinking, and the abilities of young people, we share our vision of leadership.
Inspired by our experiences this year at TEDxNASA and TEDxTeen, our TEDxYouth conference will focus creating a diverse, exciting and motivating environment. The event will have six talks: four live speakers and two TED videos that speak of the power that this generation has to create change. Students will be exposed to the efficacy of new technology and the impact a single idea can generate. They will learn to look beyond the limitations of the ordinary and set personal goals to find ways to always be extraordinary.
Our goal is to bring about the confidence in each young individual, for them to see failure not as something to be avoided but something to be chanced. We want then to break down the walls that society has traditionally set on what youth is capable of. The students at the conference will be given the chance to reflect on what they have heard and realize their capabilities. This TEDxYouth event marks the beginning of a four-year journey through the Leadership program with TED as a window to a greater experience.
Drawing on the TED vision, James River Leadership Center will encourage new thinking and a sense of imagination. We hope to move the students to take action on a scale they never realized possible.
It is their time to change the world and become Anonymous Extraordinaries!
