In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Asha Walker is the Executive Director and founder of Health in the Hood, a non-profit organization that builds vegetable gardens in underserved communities. Health in the Hood urban gardens serve as living classrooms where children and families enjoy free, healthy foods and nutrition & fitness workshops. Asha brings her high energy and expertise in community engagement, urban gardening and & wellness to Health in the Hood. She began Health in the Hood, following in her father’s community gardening foot-steps, as an answer to the call for fresh vegetables in food deserts across South Florida. Overtown, Liberty City, Miami Gardens and Hallandale Beach each have Health in the Hood community vegetable gardens to provide fresh foods for residents.

Maria Antonia Tigre is a senior attorney at the Environment Program of the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice. She provides pro bono legal services to NGOs across the globe, especially in issues related to protected areas and the interface between human rights and the environment. She is the author of ‘Regional Cooperation in Amazonia: A Comparative Environmental Law Analysis’, published by Brill in September 2017. Ms. Tigre has worked with environmental law firms, infrastructure companies and international nongovernmental organizations, including the World Resources Institute (WRI). She received her LL.B. from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is fluent in Portuguese, English, and German, with a basic understanding of French and Spanish.

Over the next few years, Rosanna works on growing the brand as well as creating two new businesses. Sanna, a Health & Fitness branch with a magazine, digital Programs, and a Fitness Morning with over 4000 attendees. Additionally, she launched Gourmet Market Restaurant, a culinary slow food experience with two locations.

Stephanie Shames is the CEO of SHMLS by Steph, a full-service health and fitness company focused on body positive and self-love. Based in Miami, Shames holds a position as Master Instructor and Trainer in indoor cycling, runs a body positive and fitness blog, and offers personalized health and wellness coaching. Shames pursued degrees in exercise science and health education at The George Washington University and Columbia University before launching #Shameless, an online body positive movement. She’s been recognized by Reebok and Well+Good one of “America’s Most Inspiring Trainers,” as well as featured in leading media publications such as Eventbrite, The Miami Herald, Miami New Times, Class Pass. Shames also serves as ambassador for Lululemon.
