In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Allen Manning

Allen Manning is an outdoor loving Davenport, Iowa native. He studied anthropology and the Navajo language. His decision to leave everything and go to live with a traditional Navajo family changed his life. His family taught him to herd sheep, chop wood, and to live as a Navajo. Later in life, he received his doctorate in education and went to work in New York City, helping big banks develop training for their employees. Mr. Manning went from a Navajo hogan to working on Wall Street. Manning currently lives in Decorah with his partner, Linda Silber, who teaches at Luther College.

Anila Bano

Anila Bano grew up in Gilgit, the northern areas of Pakistan. She is currently a student at Luther College studying biology, psychology, and religion. In 2015, Anila won the “Go Make a Difference” grant to work on local issues in Gilgit. Through her work, Anila has discovered a sense of global connectedness that inspires her to immerse herself in a life of community service, engagement with matters of peace and sustainability, and building connections with diverse people.

Anita Tamang

Anita Tamang is originally from Nepal and attended to high school in India. She is now a student at Luther College studying biology and theater. She has experience quite the life, and has learned that home can look like many things. She enjoys capturing moments through writing and hopes to one day write a book about her life story.

Ballroom and Swing Club

Luther College's Ballroom and Swing club exists to promote dance, culture, and fun on the college campus. The competitive dancing team alone has over 30 members, with our social dancers adding even more to their club as a whole. By bringing in various ballroom dance professionals and collaborating with other college clubs, they provide a thorough instruction to all who attend.

Jack Jagielski

Jack Jagielski is a student at Luther College majoring in chemistry and neuroscience. When he’s not busy preparing Tedx talks or “distraction-proofing” his environment, Jack enjoys running, kayaking, hiking, and playing outside! He’s spent time hiking and hitchhiking in the Sierra, canoeing through Quetico, sea kayaking in Ecuador, and living among the Maasai people in Tanzania. Jack hopes to eventually contribute to epilepsy and cardiomyopathy research.

Jamie Herman

Jamie Herman is a graduate of Luther College with degrees in History and International Studies. She enjoys engaging in conversations with friends, mentors, and colleagues about curiosity, intellect, and the role of higher education in society. Jamie is driven by her fascination with the history and philosophy of higher education. She hopes to pursue research into the origins of higher education while continuing conversations about the mission and potential of the liberal arts throughout history and today.

Madeline Lomprey

Madeline Lomprey is a sophomore at Luther College, from Waunakee, Wisconsin. Studying International Studies with a concentration in Peace and Conflict is allowing her to study the field of her passion.Starting in January 2020, Madeline will spend a semester studying abroad at The University of Oslo, in Oslo, Norway. There, she will dive deeper into her study of Peace and Conflict. Madeline works in Luther Admissions as a Diversity Ambassador, where she helps to recruit potential students.

Orchesis Dance Group

Orchesis is a student-led dance group at Luther College. The group allows students the opportunity to continue dancing in a college setting. Not limited to one style of dance, Orchesis aims to encompass and promote a variety of dance backgrounds. Choreography for all dances is created by students.
