In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Nawaal Akram

Nawaal Akram is a Qatari comedian, model, athlete and disability rights campaigner.She was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at the age of six. In 2016, she founded the organisation Muscular Dystrophy Qatar to raise awareness of the condition within the country. She has since performed as a comedian with Stand Up Comedy Qatar,the country's first and only collective of stand up comedians, that was started in November 2010. Akram also works as a model. She was named one of BBC's 100 Women programme, signifying her as one of the most influential and inspiration women of the year.
