In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Jan Trnka

Czech physician, researcher and educator, and currently the head of the Department of Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology. He completed his Ph.D. studies in Biochemistry as well as a Master's degree in History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge, UK. He also completed a Master's degree in Medical Education at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. Dr. Trnka’s research interests include biochemical causes of obesity and diabetes, mitochondrial biology and bioenergetics. His studies and personal experiences in various parts of the world expanded his horizons and allowed him to reflect on the complexities and deeper meanings of the nature of the healthcare profession and our scientific understanding of the human body.

Julie Nováková

An evolutionary biologist at the Faculty of Science currently pursuing the unresolved question of the evolution of altruism in her PhD studies, she also teaches an elementary astrobiology class and has written several articles, which have featured in Clarkesworld Magazine along with many other renowned platforms. Having issued her first novel at the mere age of 17, she has gone on to publish seven more novels, an anthology, a story collection and over 50 short stories as a science fiction writer and translator, deservingly resulting in three Aeronautilus Awards, the Czech Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror's Award, and the European Science Fiction Society's Encouragement Award.

Michal Pěchouček

A full professor in Computer Science at the Czech Technical University. He has been running several research contracts funded by the FAA and has collaborated on two additional research grants funded by NASA. He was a director of the R&D center of artificial intelligence and computer security of CISCO in Prague and a strategist for next technologies as well. He is also a Founding Director of the Open Informatics, a research-oriented computer science study programme at CTU-FEE. In 2015 he was featured on the 'New Europe 100' - a list of outstanding challengers who are leading world-class innovation from Central and Eastern Europe.

Ondřej Hrušák

Highly respected researcher and physician in the field of Paediatric Hematology and Oncology. He obtained his MD from 2nd Faculty of Medicine as well as a PhD in Immunology. For a while, he studied and worked in the US but returned to work both clinically and in the labs of two Departments (Pediatric Hem/Onc and Immunology). He eventually also served as Dean of his Alma mater for two terms where he made substantial contributions to both the Czech and English programs. He now spends his time as the head of the Cytometry Lab of Childhood Leukemia Investigation Prague (CLIP) and has recently received the prestigous 'Bedřich Hrozný' award from Charles University, for his research.

Ondřej Koudela

He is the founder of the start-up PrPom. He obtained a M.A in Sociology from the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University in 2011 and has since applied his trade to teaching first aid by experience, which he has plenty of, having become a paramedic in 2007. He has in the past not only set up courses to teach first aid such as ‘First aid in the Winter Mountains’ but also set up a training course for beginning businesswomen: ‘Doing Business and Excelling’ among other achievements. A man of many tricks and trades, he tried his hand at medicine and nursing, studying for 3 years at LF2 before figuring it wasn’t a fit for him.

Tanner LeTourneau

An American linguist, ESL professional, and aspiring polyglot, Mr. LeTourneau holds a M.A. in Linguistics/TESOL, and a B.A. in Spanish and Middle Eastern studies. He has taught ESL for 3+ years, in 3 countries, and has studied 5+ languages to date. His focus is on the combined fields of language acquisition, multilingualism, and language learning strategies to motivate and help people learn languages more efficiently and successfully. “Don’t stop at bilingual, don’t stop at trilingual, don’t stop building relationships.”
