In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Fatima Dirie

Refugee Community Liasion for the Salt Lake City Mayor’s office
Born in Somalia, Ms. Dirie lived in Kenya for several years before arriving as a refugee to the United States. In 1997, Ms.Dirie moved to Utah with her family, where she currently lives. She received a Master of Social Work, with an emphasize on international social work, from the University of Utah. Ms. Dirie has 15 years of professional experience supporting youth enrichment programs and working with the refugee and immigrant population, both locally and nationally. She served as President of the Black Student Union at Salt Lake Community College and is the Co-Founder and Vice-President of the Somali Youth Center. In addition, she is a member of the United Africans of Utah, a network group assisting the common needs of the diverse populations within the African community. She is passionate about advocating for human rights and social justice issues and empowering women and youth to be leaders
