In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Chandra Kishor Lal

Political Columnist and Journalist
CK Lal, who is a Journalist, political columnist, and engineer from Nepal, is known for his columns in daily newspapers in Nepal and India, his frequent participation in academic circles, and his 2010 play Sapanako Sabiti premiered in Gurukul. His book Human Rights, Democracy and Governance was published in early 2010 by Pearson, New Delhi. He is also known for his book To Be A Nepalese, published in 2012 by Martin Chautari, Kathmandu. The book was originally published as Nepaliya Hunalai. He is also co-editor of the volume Chapama Dalit published by Ekta Books, Kathmandu (2001).

Mahabir Pun

Social Entrepreneur and Activist
Mahabir Pun is a Nepalese teacher, social entrepreneur and an activist known for his extensive work in applying wireless technologies to develop remote areas of the Himalayas, also known as the Nepal Wireless Networking Project. He is a widely known figure in Nepal, and his work has been recognized by the Ashoka Foundation, the Ramon Magsaysay Foundation, University of Nebraska, and Global Ideas Bank.

Rukshana Kapali

LGBTQ Rights Activist, writer, blogger
Rukshana, core organizing member of Save Nepa Valley Movement, is an active initiator of LGBTQ Activism. She is a 19 year old transgender girl. She is involved in gender equality and Newa Movements and have been raising voice through her blogs as well.

Salma Khatoon

Deputy Mayor, Pokhariya Municipality
Salma Khatoon, Deputy Mayor of Pokhariya, is an exemplary female leader of Parsa. She is a social activist and advocates for women rights and gender equality. She is the first female in the district to have secured such a prestigious position in a regional government office.

Vikram Upadhyay

Scientific Researcher
Born and brought up in Birgunj, he spent the last 7 years as a Physics researcher. He graduated in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Chicago, a leading research university in the U.S. He worked on the ATLAS Experiment at CERN, which is the largest particle physics lab in the world located in Geneva, Switzerland. He also holds a masters in Astrophysics from some of the leading universities of Europe. Sensing a responsibility to serve his homeland, he has now returned to Birgunj and hopes to find innovative solutions to some of the social issues that plague our communities. He is focused on making quality education accessible to all, raising his voice for gender equality, and creating jobs for the forgotten youths. With this mission in mind, he currently serves as the Head of Strategy at Sano Paila (A Little Step) in Birgunj. He also makes time to volunteer as a regular teacher at a local school.
