Katherine Leonard

Teacher
Katie Leonard is a graduate of Willamette University and teaches French at Crescent Valley and Corvallis High Schools. She has taught English in France and has lived, worked, and traveled all over the world. In addition to traveling, Katie loves cooking, yoga, and hiking. She lives in Corvallis with her husband and their dog. Tonight Katie will speak about generosity via an experience while traveling abroad, and how she carries this with her in her every day life.

Megan Cox

Student
Megan Cox is a junior at West Albany High School. She competes across the nation in both softball and Speech and Debate. Over this past year, Megan has given 130 speeches ranging from stand up comedy to a 10 minute version of Harry Potter. In June, she will represent Oregon with her partner at Speech and Debate Nationals in Florida for the event "Duo Interpretation." She also loves art; recently, she won a Scholastic National Gold Medal in Mixed Media. In the future, she dreams of attending Stanford and pursuing business as a career and comedy recreationally.

Nadya Okamoto

Student, Activist, Author
Nadya Okamoto, who grew up in Portland, OR, is 20-years-old and a Harvard sophomore. She is the Founder and Executive Director of PERIOD (period.org), an organization she founded at the age of 16. She is also the Co-founder and spokesperson of Next Fellows (nextfellows.org). PERIOD is now the largest youth-run NGO in women’s health, and one of the fastest growing ones here in the United States. In 2017, Nadya ran for office in Cambridge, MA. While she did not win, her campaign team made historic waves in mobilizing young people on the ground and at polls. Nadya recently signed with publisher Simon and Schuster to write a book to mobilize the Menstrual Movement (coming Fall 2018).

Sarika Kumar

Student, Founder of RIKABIRD LLC
During her junior year at high school, Sarika Kumar started a small business known as RIKABIRD LLC highlighting her interests in art, product and graphic design. She also worked at HP Inc for two summers — once through the ASE program and once as a contract employee, doing product design and data analysis work. When she isn’t running around doing business, art and school related activities, you can often find her enjoying a good cup of coffee, playing tennis, or exploring the great Pacific Northwest. Sarika is planning on attending the University of California Davis in the fall of 2018 for Aerospace Science and Engineering. Soumya Tadepalli

Student
Soumya Tadepalli is a junior at Crescent Valley High School. She is co-captain of the Crescent Valley Speech and Debate Team and recently competed in Original Oratory and Humorous Interpretation at the OSAA Speech State Championships. Besides public speaking, Soumya loves musical theater and was selected for and participated in a masterclass taught by Hamilton actor Tyler McKenzie. Soumya also sings classical music and in her spare time enjoys listening to Italian arias. In the future, Soumya plans to pursue a career in entrepreneurship and do theater on the side.
