In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Brian Cross

Brian Cross grew up in the Silicon Valley and studied Geology at Pomona College. He worked in a variety of fields from outdoor education to corporate team building to higher ed prior spending the last 19 years with ESRI. He is responsible for ESRI's Professional Services division, helping users around the world solve problems with mapping and GIS technology.

Chris Catren

Christopher Catren is Chief of Police of the City of Redlands in California. He leads the Police Department in their ongoing efforts to provide the highest level of public safety services to the community by identifying and implementing best practices in policing, creatively utilizing technology, and through the professional development of staff. Chief Catren recognizes the importance of effective leadership in meeting organizational objectives, as well the role of leaders in mentoring and assisting staff in reaching individual goals and achieving accomplishments in the workplace.

Pete Van Helden

Pete Van Helden joined Stater Bros. Markets as President and Chief Operating Officer in 2013, bringing to the Company over 36 years of experience in the Supermarket Industry. In January of 2016, Stater Bros.’ late Executive Chairman, Jack H. Brown appointed Pete to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Pete began his career in 1977, working for Rosauers Supermarket as a Courtesy Clerk in his home state of Montana. In 1978, he relocated to Bozeman, Montana where he joined Albertsons as a Clerk. During his tenure at Albertsons, Pete held a variety of leadership positions in operations, merger integration and dual branding, and served as President and CEO of all California stores. In 2006, Pete joined Supervalu through the company’s partial acquisition of Albertsons. While at Supervalu, he was promoted to the position of Executive Vice President of Retail Operations. In this role, Pete was responsible for overseeing the operations of 1,100 stores in 36 states. Pete holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He has also completed the Executive Business Program at Stanford University in addition to the Food Industry Executive Program at the University of Southern California (USC). The USC Marshall School of Business has recently named Pete as the 2018 Executive of the Year for the Food Industry Management Program. A strong believer in helping those in need, Pete currently serves as CEO of Stater Bros. Charities, the philanthropic arm of Stater Bros. Markets. Pete is also an avid private pilot and volunteers for Angel Flight, an organization that arranges free, non-emergency air travel for children and adults with serious medical conditions. Pete and his wife Tanya reside in Redlands, California. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf and motorcycle riding.
