Theme: The 53rd Card

Since its inception in 2013, TEDxIIMShillong has grown from strength to strength, with some exemplary ideas being presented on stage. In a short span of five years, TEDxIIMShillong has crafted a remarkable niche for itself; previous editions have been graced by a wide array of marquee speakers who have left the audience invigorated with their ingenuity and novel ideas. The second edition was globally recognized by the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation as one of the top TEDx events in the Emerging Economies.

With this edition, we would like to take this legacy forward. Today, you'll be listening to an exceedingly diverse set of speakers, all of whom are united by a common thread - an idea that needed empowering. A number of ideas remain just that - ideas. A majority of prospective innovators are never able to move beyond the stage of ideation. With today's event, we present to you the doers - the individuals who have braved it all and travelled the mile.

We are currently in a time where little things can make a world of difference. All those who can identify those little things can bring about a revolution. Thinking out of the box and having a fresh perspective can help both solve an old problem, as well as come up with a solution we didn't even know we needed. Finding that spark, generating that traction, and using that special something is what can make you extraordinary. It is this power of the extraordinary that we aim to underscore with this edition's theme, 'The 53rd Card'. TEDxIIMShillong 2018 looks to transform, combine and create ideas to create a platform that invigorates new thought and inspires change. With this event, we encourage you to be motivated, and to be inspired, to look both within yourself, and at the world around you, to take your ideas forward through the power of choices that you make.

Archana Sardana is India's first female BASE jumper. She is a certified skydiver and was the first Indian to skydive with Indian Flag in United States of America. She is also the first woman Master Scuba Diver Trainer in India and has done multiple deep sea scuba dives in every corner of the globe.

Rangan Bharadwaj

Indian film critic, writer and editor

Baradwaj Rangan is an Indian film critic, writer, and formerly the deputy editor of The Hindu. He is now a senior editor of Film Companion. A member of the Film Critics Circle of India, he won the National Film Award for Best Film Critic in 2006. Before joining The Hindu, Rangan wrote for The New Indian Express. He has also authored two books, worked as a dialogue writer for the unreleased film Kadhal 2 Kalyanam, and is a teacher at the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai.

Shruti Pathak is a Filmfare Award-nominated Indian playback singer and lyricist working in Hindi film industry. She is a Gujarati, and she was born and brought up in Ahmedabad and moved to Mumbai to pursue singing as a career after finishing her Masters in Psychology.

Wendell Rodricks

Fashion Designer

A designer with an international presence Wendell has presented his unique garments, inspired by Goa and India, at major fashion events. Rodricks has the honour of being the first Indian designer to be invited to show at the World’s largest garment fair IGEDO in Germany (1995), Dubai Fashion Week (2001), Malaysia Fashion Week (2002), the prestigious Paris Pret-a-Porter salon (2007) and the world’s biggest organic fair BioFach in Nuremberg, Germany (2012). In 2007, the Confederation of Indian Industries invited the designer to showcase two fashion shows in Bryant Park, New York to celebrate the 60th year of India’s Independence. Rodricks has also, shown at Festival of India (1993) in Beijing and Shanghai in China and has shown in Sri Lanka.
