TEDxSainteAnnedeBellevue is a full-day, annual TEDx conference. Founded in 2017 by a group of young professionals, students and community leaders, we hope to showcase Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue’s colourful spirit, bring together bright minds and provoke conversations that matter.

We will be welcoming 13 extraordinary speakers, who will each tackle different topics and ideas - they will inspire, surprise and make you think.

Mountaineer, Explorer and Author
Bernard has scaled the highest mountain on each continent, including Everest, and trekked to both the North and South pole.

Casey Dobson

Winner of our 2018 Student Speaker Competition
Casey recently graduated from John Rennie with gold standing where she was selected as the class valedictorian. While there, she excelled in sports, school involvement, and fell in love with writing. After claiming top prize in a Montreal high school spoken word competition, she decided to attend John Abbott’s literature program in hopes to pursue journalism. All this while fighting the ongoing mental health struggle that has inspired her talk. Through spoken word, she learned to appreciate her nonlinear journey and hopes to show others that when you embrace the tornado, it starts to feel more like a breeze.

Dina Pestonji

Author, Activist and Keynote Speaker
After surviving a stroke in her 20s, she had to relearn how to walk And talk. Today she writes for the Huffington Post, has delivered keynote addresses at Google and BNP Paribas, and sits on the board of the Women’s Brain Health Initiative.

Dr. Chantal Line Carpentier

UN Chief, Black Belt & Researcher
Chief of UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) since mid-2014, she is a Yale World Fellow and has consulted for the UNDP, World Bank, and USDA. She has published over 50 articles, completed marathons and ironmans and is a second dam black belt in karate.

Dr. Christine Gibb

A postdoctoral researcher at the University of Toronto, she also teaches at the Munk School of Global Affairs. Her research has brought her to the Philippines, Ghana, the United States and Canada. Outside academia, she has worked as a consultant for several United Nations agencies and NGOs on environmental, development, and youth education issues. I

Dr. Kirsten Johnson

MD, Academic and Entrepreneur
Dr. Johnson practices Emergency Medicine at McGill's Health Centres and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine. As CEO of Humanitarian U, she is involved in humanitarian professionalization and was recognized as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2011.

John Halpin

Engineer, CÉGEP Director and Composer
Director General of John Abbott College - 20 year career as an engineer and manager in the aerospace industry - Choir Director for over 40-years - Composer of 20 musicals, performed in Canada, England and the USA.

Mohamed Shaheen, PhD

Technical-Lead for an emerging startup, innovation and design consultant, and Founder and Chair of the Silk Road Institute. He is an Ariane de Rothschild Fellow of Social Entrepreneurship at Cambridge University and his writings have appeared in the Globe and Mail and the Montreal Gazette.

Nathon Kong, MBA

Entrepreneur - Disrupting fashion
A graduate in Microbiology & Biotech and a McGill Dobson Cup winner, he exploded on the Montreal fashion scene thanks to his use of 3D technology to create ultra-customized suits.

The Golden Loop

Musical Experience
The Golden Loop is a collective of local musicians, poets and philosophers from Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. Their style ranges from alternative rock, jazz and soul to spoken word and poetry, using a variety of instruments, vocals and machines. Current members: Sonia Eisenfisz (vocals, loop box and guitar), Jeffrey Kane (vocals and guitar), Matt Cabana (bass and saxophone), Jack Casey (bass and drums) and Russel Hart (lyricist).
