In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Jefferson Kang'acha

I am a Kenyan citizen aged 19 years old. I am a social entrepreneur and technology enthusiast exploring the agricultural technology space. Upon completion of my secondary education in 2016, I established The Eden Hub, an agricultural technology initiative that seeks to modernize horticultural farming through automated hydroponic technology to ultimately help achieve food security in Kenya. Besides The Eden Hub, I run PALS (Peer Assistance in Learning Sessions), a voluntary peer coaching program that seeks to elevate performance of STEM subjects among high school students mainly from marginalized communities and rural setups as a basic foundation to breed the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators. My aspiration is to positively shape history by catalyzing optimum transformation of Kenya’s agricultural landscape to attain food security ultimately contributing my share in achievement of vision 2030 which lies at the core of Kenya’s heart. Consequently, I aspire to offer my youth as an instrument of peace and sustainable development by exercising leadership that will elevate Kenya’s visions to higher sights, raise its performance to higher standards and build personality beyond normal limitation.

Shan Robinson

My name is Shan Robinson. I am thirteen years old. I was born in South Carolina, USA. At the age of three months, I moved to Kuwait with my family. We lived there for three years before moving to Hangzhou, China. After living there for six years, I moved to Kenya. This is my fifth year in Kenya. I am from China, Germany and the US. My mother is Chinese, and my dad is German American. Both my parents are teachers. I have an older brother who is 19, and I am very close to him. I like learning languages, traveling, and working with children. Currently, I am learning American Sign Language, Spanish, and Mandarin, and I will begin learning German in six months. My goal is that someday I will be fluent in all four languages. In my lifetime, I am going to travel the world. Being a Third Culture Kid, I am grateful that I have had many opportunities to see more of the world compared to many kids my age, but I want to continue to travel so that I can experience different cultures and people. I also love working with children. I am a Red Cross certified babysitter. When I grow up, I would like to be an immigration lawyer. I want to be an immigration lawyer because it would give me the opportunity to help people who come to a new country for a better life.

Vanshika Virmani

I've been in Kenya for about 4 years now, and I come from India. I'm very passionate about math, science and engineering fields. But on the other side, I’m equally interested in the social sciences. Learning about different theories in international relations and being able to make connections to better interpret human behaviour is my absolute favourite thing. Extending onto these interests, I want to get involved with political science when I grow up, so that I’m a part of civil service and able to make a direct impact on people’s lives.
