In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

He also designs workshops that train business, science, academic and medical leaders in the skills it takes to make unlikely things happen. He's been a Stanford Medicine X ePatient Scholar and part of Stanford Medicine X's inaugural Emerging Leaders Program. Doug uses his personal medical story and his creativity to help people and organizations understand how hope can change their assessment of the problems they face, and how that can lead to success, sometimes even in seemingly impossible situations. Jackie Joyner-Kersee

An American retired track and field athlete, ranked among the all-time greatest athletes in the heptathlon as well as long jump. She won three gold, one silver, and two bronze Olympic medals, in those two events at four different Olympic Games. Sports Illustrated for Women magazine voted Joyner-Kersee the Greatest Female Athlete of All-Time. She is on the Board of Directors for USA Track & Field (USATF), the national governing body of the sport.
