In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

J. C. Glick

JC Glick is a partner at Kenning Associates, a top consulting firm specializing in Leadership Development, Organizational Culture and Building Resiliency in professionals. JC served as an Infantry Officer for 20 years, primarily serving in Ranger and Special Operations/Missions Units. He has multiple deployments in support of operations worldwide, with 11 Combat Tours. Selected to direct the Army’s schools on Leadership Development, Resiliency and Fitness and develop strategy for the Army of 2025 in these areas, his recent transition to Kenning and its clients has been seamless. He has led organizations as large as 1,500 Soldiers, and advised Fortune 500 Companies with over 200,000 employees and over $62 billion in revenue, as well as professional sports teams and athletes. With a history of innovation and unconventional thought on education and leadership, the military focused him on adult leadership development. Considered a thought leader in adaptive and proactive programs of instruction centered on the development of leadership behaviors and values within a dynamic environment, he was recently spotlighted in Forbes and the Huffington Post, and referenced in Inc. and Entrepreneur regularly. He is also the co-author of the critically acclaimed book, A Light in the Darkness, Leadership Development for the Unknown, currently being used in both the NFL and Microsoft. He holds a Masters Degree from the Naval War College and was a Senior Fellow in the Service Chief’s Fellowship at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). He has earned three Bronze Stars, a Joint Commendation Medal and the Order of Saint Maurice. He is a member of the University of Rhode Island ROTC Hall of Fame and selected as a Liberty Fellow, class of 2016, a part of The Aspen Institute and the Aspen Global Leadership Network.

Jay Richardson

Jay Richardson grew up in Barnwell, South Carolina before attending Vanderbilt University. After graduating in 1999 with a Biology degree, Jay moved to Hawaii and worked at a pool-side bar-and-grill. Jay then earned his JD from University of Chicago Law School, where he served as Articles Editor for the University of Chicago Law Review and right fielder for the law school’s championship softball team. Following law school, Jay served as law clerk for Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Richard A. Posner and US Supreme Court Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist. He then practiced with Kellogg, Huber, Hansen in Washington, DC, representing a variety of companies in contract, fraud, intellectual property, and antitrust disputes. Jay returned to South Carolina in 2009 to prosecute gangs, violent criminals, and narcotics traffickers as an Assistant United States Attorney. He is currently the US Attorney’s Deputy Criminal Chief, focusing on white-collar financial crimes, terrorism, and public corruption. He recently served as lead prosecutor in obtaining the death penalty for Dylann Storm Roof as a result of his attack on parishioners at the Charleston Emanuel AME Church.

Lauren Jackson

Lauren Jackson currently teaches AP Biology, General Biology and Anatomy and Physiology at the Hammond School in Columbia, SC. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, as well as a Master of Science in Education from Old Dominion University. She served as a Master Teacher for the Virginia Space Grant Consortium at NASA – Langley before moving to South Carolina with her husband, son and two dogs. She also holds a Master of Public Health degree with a focus on Global Health and Policy from the Keck School of Medicine, at the University of Southern California. In 2017, she was selected as a Global Health Immersion Fellow at the Keck School of Medicine in the field of health and human rights. Recently, she spent her summer working with the Kenya Legal & Ethical Issues Network (KELIN), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), where she conducted research on the ethics of isolating those living with and affected by tuberculosis. Her current research explores the requirement of vaccine prescriptions and the impact on the health of children younger than 12.

Richard Bogan

Bio: Richard K. Bogan, MD, FCCP, FAASM Rick is the owner of Bogan Sleep Consultants. Bogan is board certified in sleep medicine, pulmonary medicine and internal medical. He continues as Chief Medical Officer and Board member of SleepMed Incorporated. Bogan has served as the medical director for several hospital departments and has served on various business, community and civic boards. He is currently a founding Director of First Community Bank of SC and an associate clinical professor at the University of South Carolina, School of Medicine and Medical University of SC in Charleston, SC. He is on the Board of Directors for the National Sleep Foundation. He also maintains a medical and research practice in sleep medicine. Dr. Bogan received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and his MD degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He served his internship, residency and was Chief Medical Resident at the University of Alabama Hospitals and Clinics in Birmingham and a fellowship, assistant professorship in the Pulmonary Division of the Department of Medicine at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Birmingham, Alabama. He co-founded SleepMed in 1994 which grew to become the largest independent provider of sleep diagnostic and specialized EEG services (Digitrace) in the country with over 210 locations in over 32 states. As former Chairman of SleepMed Inc. Board, the company went through multiple rounds of financing and expansion from a single location to a large multi-site healthcare services company. SleepMed completed over 10 acquisitions and grew to over $100M in revenue. SleepMed merged with Watermark Inc. in April 2013 to establish the largest sleep diagnostic, therapeutic and research sleep company in the United States.
