Theme: Connection and Communication

The South Pasadena High School Mediators is an organization formed to promote mental wellness and to improve interactive culture. The SPHS Mediators second TEDx event encompasses the ideas of communication, relationships, and empathy. Three students speakers will share their personal stories of finding connection in the 21st century. Discussions will be held after the talks to share ideas by the participants.

Amanda Estevez

Student

Amanda Estevez is a junior at South Pasadena High School. She loves to sing, write songs, and watch Game of Thrones in her free time. She wants to share her experience of growing up in a very physically affectionate Latino family while also having friends and peers that don’t convey their affection in the same way, and having a fear of being considered too much work as a friend.

Archer Willems

Student

Archer Willems is a Senior at South Pasadena High School in California. He enjoys martial arts and silkscreen printing. He participates in club activities and occasional creative or persuasive writing.

Ben Elbaum

Student

Ben Elbaum is currently a senior at South Pasadena High School. Combining religious ethics, environmental economics, and an appreciation for abstract art mediums, Ben Elbaum hails from the Los Angeles area.He wants to spread the message on what religion means in an increasingly agnostic society. Although he has only one TED Talk currently, he hopes to do more on a variety of topics like how a saxophone can be a pen and why dry humor works.
