Unravel

Under the theme unravel, this event hopes to investigate, solve and explain a few mysteries, to undo stereotypes and misconceptions. At the heart of it, in the spirit of TED, TEDxAfricanLeadershipAcademy is a celebration of great ideas, a spark for great dialogue and a space for meaningful connections.

Laila Tasneem Bera

Laila Bera is a paperclip. She might be small in structure but she has big dreams. As an aspiring scientist, Laila hopes to bend and redesign current STEM syllabus in schools. When Laila is not busy planning on taking over the world with paperclips, you can find her solving her Rubik’s Cube, playing soccer or paging through an interesting book.

Momoko Mandere

Momoko lives for the difficult questions . An aspiring poet and enthusiastic activist, she spends her days brooding and scribbling bad poetry in a battered notebook that has way too many coffee-spills on it. On days when she is not fervently debating political policies and the effects of globalization, she can be seen watching cat videos with the kind of rapt attention usually reserved for things other than balls of fluff and claws. Unflinching in her resolve, Momoko aims to leave the world a bit better than she found it. She dedicates her time to creating better systems to help her do so: whether through health policy within her campus or diplomatic discussions at conferences on the environment and the state of the African Union. Always ready for the next adventure, Momoko looks forward to a future of tackling taxes,Tinder and tyranny.

Temilolu Olamide Awofeso

Temilolu Olamide Awofeso was born and bred in contemporary Lagos, Nigeria. Growing up with 1 sibling after the loss of his stepbrother, he nurtured himself in the arts from a tender age. At the age of 6, Temilolu was enrolled into a remedial arts school where he learned the fundamentals of painting, sculpting, writing and spoken word art. From 2008, he attended Greensprings School Lagos for 9 years where he fostered his creative, analytical nature further in English, Social Sciences and the arts. Through his education, he achieved several accreditations from various art programmes and competitions, such as the AISEN Visual Art Competition and the Nigerian Olympic Committee. Prior to this, he has also made amazing impact in public speaking through his constant role as a Student Speaker for Declamation Contests, Interschool Debates and Spoken Word Performances. Temilolu graduated from Greensprings in 2017 as the 10th Best Student in his Year Group. As a First Year Student in African Leadership Academy, Temilolu has made exceptional moves in the field of English and the arts through several performances and directed works, such as his Poetry Spoken Word at the Nigerian Consulate on the crippling nature of the Nigerian society to his comedic drama based on Feminism in An African Household. In ALA, he currently acts as a Student Blog Writer, fabricating articles based on student and staffulty life in ALA for the school and the wider world, while discussing other topics like Economics, Finance, Collaboration and Leadership. Temilolu has aspirations of writing for a global audience, revolutionizing the mass media and society and using the art of speaking, writing and Journalism to inform, to educate and develop governmental systems in society for the nearer future.
