Theme: TIP OF THE ICEBERG

Nowadays, there are plenty of issues and facts that are invisible to the understanding of the general public. These issues come from a variety of topics, such as education or environment. For instance, an underlying issue of education in our local community is that we often lack solid and fundamental knowledge about each subject, and as a result, it has a substantial consequence to the quality of skilled labor. Another problem that exists in our society is the increasing amount of pollution that leads to fatal diseases. All these problems are lying underneath the surface of the hectic but extravagant metropolitan lifestyle of Ho Chi Minh City. Therefore, our intended theme is "Tip of the Iceberg". By using this theme as a direction, the conference will explore the things deep down that our community do not have substantial knowledge about, hence spread new and novel ideas. The aim is to invite speakers from multiple disciplines to talk about an issue that they know or see but are new to the community. They can come from any age, school, university, or career.

Chris O’Dempsey

Educated in several areas of emergency medicine, as well as business and ministry, Chris has spent the last 27 years sharing his time and expertise with South East Asian countries, primarily Vietnam, in ‘hands on’ medical and humanitarian aid with Vietnam’s poor, and has a passion to help the children reach a quality of life that often is not available to their family in normal circumstances. Chris has brought medical equipment, skilled surgeons, created medical facilities from Clinics to Ambulance Boats.. and educated millions of kids in road and water safety, with his latest goal to bring First Aid training to all schools in Vietnam. He believes that every person has a right to a quality of life. Every child, a right to an education, and a future that brings hope, and the realisation of their unique potential.

Meritorious Artist Dinh Linh and his sons Dinh Nhat Thanh, Dinh Nhat Minh is a family of traditional musicians - with three generations constantly perform and preserve the art form of bamboo flute. In this performance, Artist Dinh Linh and sons give a beautiful presentation of the sound of nature, with a touch of surprise. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDxUEH is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. TEDx UEH event with the theme "Tip of the iceberg" aims to explore the underlying meaning behind the observable surface. What we often see is not necessarily all there is.
