In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Clark Colby

Clark Colby is a fourth-generation Des Moines-area resident. He earned Bachelor of Architecture, Environmental Studies, and Master of Science in Architecture degrees. Currently, he is working on a Master of Arts degree. His passion is learning. He also loves traveling and has explored all 50 states, 11 Canadian provinces and 44 countries to date. This summer, he, his partner, Kristen, and dog, Lucca, are driving a cargo van to the Arctic Ocean in the Northwest Territories and Alaska; approximately 10,000 miles and 180 hours of drive time. Clark has recently taught classes in furniture design, photography, interdisciplinary design, and ceramics. He works with youth around the state of Iowa helping them share their stories through photography and audio/visual narratives. Two new state youth initiatives that he started include the 4-H Camera Corps program and the 4-H Reporters program which is a partnership with iHeart Radio and Iowa Public Television. With action, inquiry, and a creative, open mind, he hopes to save and create things and places of value for future generations.

Courtney Long

Courtney Long is a program coordinator with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in the departments of Agriculture and Natural Resources and Community and Economic Development. Courtney coordinates the Community Food Systems Program, a community process to develop and design local food systems in partnership with neighborhoods. This program partners directly with the Community Design Lab and additional departments on the Iowa State Campus. She is passionate about community engagement, public health, food access, and holistic programming. The Community Food System Program process develops trust and community coalitions, facilitates public input sessions, conducts spatial assessment, and designs relevant food system projects. Courtney has been working with local food systems and design for access to healthy, local and regional foods since 2010 with various appointments and research. Courtney received her Bachelors of Landscape Architecture in 2010, Certificate of Healthcare Garden Design in 2010, a MS of Sustainable Agriculture in 2012, Certificate of Integrative Nutrition in 2013, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Sustainable Agriculture from Iowa State.

Darin Doerscher

Darin Doerscher is a local speaker who makes a big impact in ways many of us never think about. Darin works for the USDA and is a player in the National School Lunch Program, especially as it relates to ground beef. Darin grew up on a farm in Davenport and attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1998 with a bachelors in animal science. He returned to ISU to do a Masters in muscle biology and meat science and finished in 2002. Darin currently works for the USDA and holds the title of livestock and meat marketing specialist. He has received numerous awards from the USDA including a Superior Service Award, Honor Award, AMS Administrator Award, and a Certificate of Merit. He was also part of the National Champion Meat Animal Evaluation Team. His greatest accomplishment, however, is being a husband and father.

Delaney Howell

Delaney Howell, originally from Columbus Junction, is the President of "Ag News Daily," owner of AgCulture Media, and a producer for Iowa Public Television. She is also the host of a radio show on Your Ag Network called "Country Girl with Delaney Howell' and a freelance TV reporter for "This Week in Agribusiness" and "AgriPulse." She recently took a position as the host for "Market to Market." Howell earned her B.S. in Agricultural Science from Northwest Missouri State and is currently pursuing her Master's of Agricultural Communication from Texas Tech University. Howell has traveled extensively and been to 17 countries and over 30 states. She also served as an International College Ambassador to Japan in 2014 and received the NAFB Scholarship.

Levi Hoffman

Our previous student presenter, Kyle Dell, appointed Levi Hoffman, a junior at Northeast High School, to the position of speaker. Levi lives in Charlotte, Iowa, a small sister town to Goose Lake and has attended Northeast his entire educational career. Levi is involved in football and golf and holds several leadership positions including student council president, FBLA president, and Rebel Nation coordinator. He is also a part of the Rebel Image Committee and the Student Improvement Advisory Committee or SIAC. Te past two years, Levi has taken on the enormous task of planning a Dance Marathon, raising over $9,000.00 for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. In addition to his extra-curricular activities, Levi works at a grocery store in Clinton, Iowa and he will graduate with over 30 college credits. After high school, Levi plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa to study business and accounting.

Tina Bakehouse

Tina Bakehouse is a lifelong Iowa resident. She was born in Griswold, Iowa and currently resides in Hastings. Bakehouse has spent much of her life in the area of education earning a Bachelor of Arts in both Communication Studies and Teaching Theater, Speech, and English from the University of Northern Iowa and a Masters of Arts in Communication from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. She currently works as an outreach and communications coordinator for Golden Hills Resource Conservation and Development and as an executive communication coach and consultant. Bakehouse has developed and implemented many farm to school projects and is part of the the Ag Arts organization along with Practical Farmers of Iowa. She has even served as a TEDxYouth coach for an event held in Omaha.
