Theme: What if?

This event occurred on
March 23, 2018
Charlotte, North Carolina
United States

When we are young, we ask a lot of what-ifs. However, things begin to change as we grow up. We want to encourage inquisitive thinking and creativity by prompting individuals to share their ideas and discuss with one another. What if you did something new to improve our society? What if you invented something so creative it changed the world? What if you started a movement that changed perspectives locally, or even worldwide?

Todd Statome

Philosophy + TOK Teacher
Todd Statome has been teaching for 20 years. He didn't always think about teaching, but he found his calling the first day of student teaching when he just took over the class for his supervising teacher, and he hasn't looked back since. He believes that being a Philosophy teacher is a blessing, because he can go beyond the normality of the everyday experience, and breach deep into the ontological view of what makes us human. This allows students to view the human experience from unique perspectives and why we exist in a different light.

Student
Trekahry Gadson is a junior at East Mecklenburg High School. He is a 16 year old Black male who was born in Charlotte but spent a lot of his early life in Florida. His goals for the future are to graduate from Harvard University and spark further conversations about issues that don't gain nearly as much recognition as they deserve. As an adult, he wants to help the next generation of Black kids become the educated Black men he knows they can be.
